MKB-MVM Veszprém’s captain, László Nagy (33) observes the group matches of the Champions League and its tables; however he much more cares about his team getting into Champions League Final in Cologne.
“There is no reason to change our set aims” – in the interview of Telekom Sport News Service, László - double Champions League and EHF Cup winner - asserted that after having recovered from his thigh injury and now being the key player of the Hungarian team again. “We took a vow to gain three purposes last year, when 2014/15 CL season started, and out of them we achieved getting the first place in “C” group. The next step will be getting into the Final Four and the biggest success would be to perform better there than last year.”
The other group winner teams after the ninth round are the German THW Kiel („A” group), the Spanish FC Barcelona („B”), and the Polish KS Vive Tauron Kielce („D”); out of them only the latter team was able to win in each game – it is the club of Talant Dujsebajev who has been chosen as the head coach of the Hungarian national team.
“The Polish team’s success deserves attention which is not a huge surprise since Kielce got into Final Four two years ago. The Danish KIF Kolding is also performing well, which is the second after Barcelona overtaking CL’s German title defender, Flensburg with bigger goal ratio. However, we cannot draw a conclusion because the knockout tournament is coming in which anything can happen – for instance, last year’s teams might get into Final Four, or one or more of them might fail before Final Four. I think I’m not too self-confident to say that we should not fear future opponent teams more than they do because we are successful and prepared. After the last two years’ moves of the team, our defence and offence have been strengthened, as a result of which our repertoire has also broadened which obviously causes difficulty to our opponents. In the next season, the Icelandic Aron Palmarsson is going to play in our team, who is not only an excellent playmaker but a great back as well.”
László Nagy also talked about that this year MKB-MVM Veszprém is preparing for a great performance not only in one but two international tournament’s final: Champions League and SEHA League.
“Actually, we expected SEHA League’s obstacle race to be a bit harder but it is undoubtedly useful. We faced unknown or less known teams which is a new challenge for us. We were trained mainly in the games against the two teams of Skopje, Zagreb and Brest, or Tatran Presov. We are facing a really hard couple of weeks because we want to perform well not only in the two leagues but in the playoff of the domestic championship.” – MKB-MBM Veszprém’s captain said who is playing in the CL in Montpellier this weekend.
