The second round of the EHF Champions League will be played on Thursday in the Veszprém Arena, when Telekom Veszprém hosts Croatian champions PPD Zagreb. We asked our head coach and players about their expectations before the first home CL game.
David Davis: The Champions League is the Champions League, no matter whom we play against. We are in the beginning of the series, and until we play five or six games, we will not know how is the team. Normally it goes like this, because we might have a wrong interpretation of our rivals. We play the first Champions League match at home this season, after a long time, and in front of our Supporters. We have to give our 100%, no matter against who, or what. Zagreb did not have a good start, but neither did we, in a sense that we should have started better. We need to be aware, and play our game, be 100% concentrated. We need to fight for the victory in our own Arena.
Andreas Nilsson: We always have a hard time against Zagreb, because they are huge fighters. We usually win just by a few goals, and have a big fight against them. We have the respect towards them, but we have the home court advantage, and we will do everything in our power to win, and prove for the Fans that we are in the competition again. Zagreb has a good team, and now Igor Vori as the coach. They will fight until the end, but so will we.
Rogerio Moraes: Finally, the Champions League is back to Veszprém Arena. I am sure, that it will be a hard game against Zagreb. We play at home, and we have to win this to gain confidence for the upcoming games. We have to be glad to be able to play still, given this unusual situation with the pandemic. We cannot tell what the future holds. We have to think day-by-day, and game-by-game. We have to give more than 100%, and win the match. It is important for everyone. We have to keep improving.
Rodrigo Corrales: We know Zagreb, we saw them a few weeks ago in the SEHA League Final4. We saw their potential, because they had the lead almost all game, and only lost to Vardar by penalties. The Croatians always have a team that never gives up and always fights. This year they have some changes, new players and new coach, nevertheless, it is going to be a tough game for us. We are going to play at home, and our Fans are always passionate about winning. We hope to do them right. We have a lot of respect for Zagreb. We need to take care, and win. We did not have game last weekend, so we cannot wait to play again.
