Telekom Veszprém will face Meshkov Brest in the semifinal of the SEHA – Gazprom League Final4 in Zadar tomorrow at 18:00. Before the game, our head coach David Davis and team captain, Máté Lékai attanded the opening press conference where they told their expectations about the game and tournament itself.
David Davis: My players are in a fantastic physical condition, they had worked hard in the gym and on the court. The team is ready and I am really confident with them. We come to fight every season. We are happy that we are here, we feel no pressure. We are happy that we can be here in this situation. We came to fight for the first position, we are focused to win.
Máté Lékai: Our new players still need some time to integrate to the system, and we still have to learn how to play together. We missed a lot of time, maybe the longest in any players’ career. Our team is getting better and better game by game, match by match, and we would like to carry on this road. We are sorry that our Fans could not come with us because of the closed borders, but this time, it might not be a disadvantage for us, because I am sceptic about other teams’ Fans travelling to this event. I am sure that our Supporters will cheer us through the television from home. We have our goal for the weekend and we will do whatever coach Davis says to win the cup at the end.
Raul Alonso: We came to Zadar to play on the highest level possible. The Final4 will be difficult, because good and strong teams will be playing here. Those who know the atmosphere of a Final4 will know, that it is a good mixture of current form and a bit of luck. The first step for us is to fight for the best result possible with the right attitude. All teams have the same problem, that is missing a lot of time, and not playing handball for a while. It takes time to reach the level we have been on before the pause. We will see now, how we will take the first hurdle.
Ivan Pesic: I am happy that I can be in Zadar. I have to say, that the players of Brest did not miss that much, because our championship was finished eventually. This might mean a slight advantage for us, but looking at our preparation games, we were on a rollercoaster. This will change on live games. We can draw some conclusion from our losses against Veszprém in the group phase, but tomorrow will be a whole other game.
