The career of Marian Cozma

 

On 8 February, it is going to be ten years that our great line player, Marian Cozma has died under tragic circumstances. Veszprém Handball Team Co. Ltd. and Veszprém Építők Sport Association, in cooperation with Veszprém City and with Veszprém Fan Association, is planning a common commemoration to that day at 6:00 p.m. to the Marian Cozma statue at the square in front of Veszprém Arena. We will remember him the next day as well, on Telekom Veszprém – Barca Lassa Champions League game. In this article we are tracking the career of Marian and present it to our fans.

 

 

Marian was born on 8 September 1982 in Bucharest, and he started his career in the country-wide well-known Dinamo Bucharest. He became Romanian champion and Cup winner in his four years at Dinamo, furthermore, he had the chance to debut in the Romanian national team in 2002 against Belarus. He signed with Veszprém in 2006 where he achieved many great successes. He is a two times Hungarian champion and Cup winner, and won the Cup Winner’s Cup in 2008 with Veszprém. He played in 111 games and scored 329 goals for “Építők”.

 

Our player was murdered on 8 February 2009, in front of a local pub. After his death, Veszprém handball club and the Romanian national team retired his jersey number: Nobody will ever wear number 8 in Veszprém and 82 in the Romanian national team. He became a posthumous honorary citizen of Veszprém and Bucharest. At the stage of his successes, in front of the Veszprém Arena, stands his three-meter tall statue, which was made from public founding. The statue was presented on 6 February 2010.

 

The memory of Marian will forever live in our hearts, and we will never forget what he has done for the Club!
