We have been through the second Champions League group round. MVM Veszprém gained victory over the winner of 2014 Flensburg with four goals on home court, just like other rivals of ours. Zagreb gained points in Celje.
RK Celje Pivovarna Lasko (SLO) - RK PPD Zagreb (CRO) 20:21 (10:9)
The number of the goals shows that game was mainly based on the defence. Although Zlatko Horvat did not play in the guest team (he got a red card in the game against Kiel), the Croatian team was able to keep up with the hosts mostly thanks to their strong defence system. At the end of the first half, the scoreboard showed 10:9, thanks to the 14 saves of Urban Lesjak.
After Blaz Janc scored (20:18) 8 minutes before the end of the second half, not many thought that this was the last home score. Then, the Croatian defence got strengthened and equalized the result with the goals of Luka Stepancic and Stanko Sablijic. The Croatian right back scored again overtaking the team. There were two minutes left from the game. The home team had the chance to end the game with a tie but Filip Ivic saved a penalty first, then a shot.
Scorers:
Celje: Janc, Mlakar, Razgor és Zvizej 3-3, Blagotinsek és Zarabec 2-2, Babarskas, Dobelsek, Ivic, Potocnik 1-1
Zagreb: Obranovic, Sabljic, Sprem és Stepancic 3-3, Kontrec, Kovacevic, Pavlovic és Sebetic 2-2, Mihic 1
Paris Saint-Germain Handball (FRA) - Orlen Wisla Plock (POL) 29:24 (16:13)
After having a tie with the team of Veszprém, Wisla Plock travelled to Paris. The 21 saves of Thierry Omeyer and the 13 scores of the Karabatic brothers (Nikola 7, Luka 6) turned out to be a hard task to fight with. After the game, the coach of the home team Noka Serdarusic said that he is really happy about the victory. Besides, Omeyer was also satisfied with the defence system because getting only 24 goals from Plock is great. Cadenas, the coach of the guest team expressed his disappointment with the last ten minutes. He thinks that the game was decided by the defence system. Paris seemed to be winning mostly thanks to the achievement of the goalkeepers and the red card of Nikola Karabatic followed by his third 2-minute substitution did not seem to set them back.
Scorers:
PSG: N. Karabatic 7, Hansen és L. Karabatic 6-6, Barachet 3, Honrubia és Narcisse 2-2, Abalo, Melic és Møllgaard Jensen 1-1
Wisla Plock: Rocha és Zhitnikov 5-5, Ghionea, Montoro és Nikcevic 3-3, Oneto, Racotea, Tarabochia, Wisniewski és Zelenovic 1-1
THW Kiel (GER) - Besiktas Jimnastik Kulubu (TUR) 32:21 (16:12)
The Turkish team suffered an 11-goal defeat in Kiel. The team could keep up with the German champion team thanks to their top scorer Ramazan Dönen, who gained five goals during the game. Then, the hosts turned out to be unstoppable. Their fast breaks did not succeeded, in addition Nikolas Katsigiannis performed great while replacing Niklas Landin.
In the second half, the team led by Patrick Wiencek and Rune Dahmke surmounted Besiktas and defeated them in the end. Coach Gislason – who dedicated the endgame to some new players – said that they needed this achievement because following their two defeats (in the Bundesliga and in the CL), they started the game a bit nervous but finally gained a well-deserved victory thanks to their stable defence and saves.
Scorers:
Kiel: Dahmke, Vujin és Wiencek 6-6, Weinhold 5, Ekberg 2, Canellas, Duvnjak Ferreira Moraes, Katsigiannis, Mamelund, Oprea, Toft Hansen 1-1
Besiktas: Döne 5, Djukic és Özbahar 4-4, Coban 3, Dacevic és Pribak 2-2, Mercan 1
