Telekom Veszprém - SG Flensburg-Handewitt 28-23

Telekom Veszprém played against Flensburg in front of the red supporters. Építők started the game, Nenadic throwed wide, but Corrales started with a big save. After 8 minutes play Flensburg had no goals, Veszprém defence was extraordinary (4-0). Very soon, in the 10th minute the guests had to call a timeout, because Veszprém ran away by 5 goals. The defence was still tough, the fastbreaks came from this and for the middle of the half the difference was already 7 goals (10-3). In the 20th minute Ilic also called a timeout and after this Marguc scored from the wing. Corrales was on fire today, too, he showed many huge saves. Ilic rotated the team, almost everyone got minutes in the first half. Ligetvári introduced with a big goal and Veszprém had the double goals than its opponent (14-7). For the break the home advantage was 6 goals.
 

In the second half, one of the best defender of Veszprém Sipos scored the first goal. Flensburg had problems to go through the Veszprém defence, but on the other side Veszprém scored easily nice goals and built a 9 goals lead (35. min 18-9). Lauge and Nenadic made the team play and scored very beautiful goals, too. In the 40th minute the guest coach used his last timeout, he could not be satisfied with his team’s performance. Strlek scored many goals, in Flensburg Einarsson was on fire (45. min 23-16). After a few minutes Veszprém blackout Flensburg came back by 5 goals, but Ilic made changes and the 7 goals difference stood back (27-20). For the endgame Veszprém could go calm and confidently and the young players could step on the court. At the end Veszprém won the game thanks to its fantastic defence and Corrales’s good performance.

Congratulations to Veszprém for the well deserved victory! We are going through a hard period as a club and as a team, we didn’t really expected to win tonight, we have a lot of injuries, and Veszprém is always one of the hardest places to play. We started really bad, especially in defense, there were no agression whatsoever, Veszprém could score easy goals. I tried to play 7 vs 6 but it didn’t work either. However, I’m very satisfied with the second half, our defending improved a lot, and Einarsson helped a lot on the right wing, even though he hardly had any trainings with us yet.

 

Anton Lindskog:

Congratulation to Veszprém, they deserved the victory, we were not good enough in defence. We had many problems in attack as well, but in the second half we were better. An important game awaits us at the weekend, from now we are preparing for that.

 

 

Respect to Flensburg and congratulations to my team! The first half was really good: tough defending, good goalkeeping and we were smart in attack. In the second half our attack and defense got a bit worse, we made mistakes, I’ll try to find a solution for this problem, so that we can keep up the good performance until the end. I’m happy for the youngsters that they could play again and also I would like to thank to our fans for the support.

We played a good game, we can be satisfied. We started the game very well, but in the second half we had a weaker period. On the next week we are going to Bucharest, it is also an important game for us.
