Telekom Veszprém was fighting for its 28th Hungarian Cup title while MOL-Pick Szeged for its 7th one in the Főnix Csarnok of Debrecen this afternoon. Szeged started the final and took the lead by Maqueda. But Nagy equalized immediately then Gajic scored from penalty. Bombac equalized after that. Nenadic forced out a penalty and Gajic succeeded again. Sigurmannsson did the same (5th min.: 3:3). The next 2 minutes were about the saves of Sterbik and Alilovic. Then Bombac and Sostaric scored but their goals were answered twice by Nagy (11th min.: 5:5). For the middle of the first half Szeged could build up a 2-goal lead again so coach Davis called a timeout (15th min.: 7:9). 5 minutes later the blue fans could cheer for their 4-goal lead (8:12). Mikler substituted for Sterbik and Tonnesen came back to the court first time since his hand injury. The penalty goal of Balogh made an 8:13 result for Szeged. And the lead of “blues” was growing. David Davis called a timeout at result 9:16 in the 27th minute. Both teams could score once in the remaining time of the first half so the teams went to the halftime break at result 10:17.

 

 

The first goal of the second half was scored by Nagy but Bombac replied. The “Építők” tried to decrease its deficit but they could do it only by one within 5 minutes (35th min.: 13:19). After that Szeged could score twice into the empty net. Veszprém kept fighting and for the beginning of the 42nd minute the difference became five goals after the penalty of Gajic (17:22). Two minutes later, after the goal of Strlek, the difference was only four (44th min.: 18:22). In the 46th minute Maqueda scored and after that Bánhidi received a red card. But Gajic missed the penalty. The goals of Bodó, Strlek and Nagy was coming and Kallman was suspended for 2 minutes. But Bodó could score which was replied by Nagy. In the end of the 50th minute the result was 21:25. Then two quick Szeged goals were coming. Lékai twice and Mackovsek once scored and decreased the difference for 3 goal 6 minutes before the end (54th min.: 24:27). Then Bombac and Ilic netted (57th min.: 25:28). Canellas fouled Nilsson and got 2-minute suspension. Mahé scored from the seven-meter-line. One minute before the end Nagy scored and minimalize the deficit (59th min.: 27:28). Sterbik saved the shot of Sigurmannsson but only 5 seconds remained and this short time was enough only for a far distance shot by Lékai that was saved by Alilovic. Szeged won the game for 27:28 and collected the Hungarian Cup.
