The game started with a Mezőkövesd goal which was equalized right after that by Manaskov. In the 5th minute Mikler made a great save, from which Mahé scored to make it 3:2. Mahé missed a penalty as well, and Mekőkövesd lived with the chance and scored to take the lead 4:5. The guest goalkeeper, Imre Pásztor made many great saves in the first quarter of the game. Veszprém started to take the rhythm and lead great attacks to get a 10:7 edge in the 19th minute. The standing in the 23rd minute was 11:8, and in the 25th minute, a great kempa made it 13:9 for „Építők”. The half was closed by Marguc’s penalty getting a 17:12 lead for the half.
The second half started with many missed chances on both sides. The guest team could not score goals so their head coach, Dániel Buday called timeout. The score was 20:12 at that time for Veszprém. Mikler saved many times which was helped by the improved defense in the second half. Once our wall blocked three shots in one attack, once Mackovsek and twice Szűcs. The nine goals difference got permanent between the teams until the 42nd minute, when the difference grew to 10 goals. The scoreboard showed a 27:16 result in the 45th minute while in the 50th minute it was 30:17. Mezőkövesd got really tired by the end of the game, no wonder why they missed most of their attacks and Veszprém punished it with fastbreak goals and won the game confidently. Final result 37:22.
David Davis: First of all, thanks for the guest club for agreeing to play this game a day earlier, because this way we can still prepare for our Champions League game. Congratulations to my players who will have a huge game next week in the Champions League. They took this game seriously. I could give a lot of minutes to the young players, not only a few but real time. Bence Szűcs played well today, it was his fourth game. He is preforming better and better. Congratulations to everyone. We are carrying on working.
Bence Szűcs: We tried to play 100% from the start. Mezőkövesd has a lot of injured players but their first line made our job difficult in the first half. Also, Pásztor saved well and we could only lead by four goals. In the second half, we found the rhythm in defense. Of course, young players played on their side as well.
Dániel Buday: Congratulations to Veszprém. It is hard to say anything but I think we held ourselves well in the first half despite of our injured players. Pásztor’s saves kept us in the game. After that we got tired, we got slower and Veszprém lead easy attacks, this way, they won the game. What I expected from my team, I got it back. The goals are different at each team. Good luck to Veszprém, I hope they will be successful.
Imre Pásztor: Congratulations to Veszprém. I am proud to my team for their first half performance. In the second half, the difference came out between the teams. Veszprém switched to higher level and we got tired by the end. We can learn a lot from this game for our future matches. Good luck to Veszprém in the championship and in the Champions League as well.
