Telekom Veszprém - HE-DO B.Braun Gyöngyös 26-22

Telekom Veszprém hosted Gyöngyös in Veszprém Aréna. After a missed guest’s shot Marguc scored first, then Yahia doubled it up. After 5 minutes play there was 4-0 on the scoreboard and Gyöngyös could not find the hole on the home defence. After some missed Veszprém’s attack the guest team came closer (13. min. 6-4). At the middle of the half Ilic refreshed in many positions, but the 2 goals difference stabilizied between the teams. Veszprém played without a classic left winger, but even Mahé and Lukács scored from that position. Had to wait 20 minutes for the first timeout, the guest coach had enough that his team could not score a lot to Corrales (9-6). There were good goalkeeper performances on both side, that was why Gyöngyös could keep themselve close to Veszprém.

 

Mahé opened the second half with his goals and Veszprém had a 5 goals advantage very quickly. Mahé got 2 minutes suspension and the guests won 2-0 that period (36. min 16-13). The home defence was very tough and cooperated very well with Corrales. After 10 minutes play another guest’s timeout was called, because the home advantage was growing continously. Cupara came to the goal and helped his team with nice saves. Veszprém was one man down many times, but Gyöngyös could not use these periods. Cupara saved a penalty, but in attack Maqueda missed in powerplay a clear chance. Mahé scored a brace very fast and increased the lead to 7 goals (54. min 24-17). Thanks to some lost balls Gyöngyös came back by 4 goals, but the safe victory was not in danger and the home crowd could celebrate another success.

Congratulations to Veszprém! We reached our goal to play a good game with Veszprém, I’m very proud of my team. In the first half we made a lot of mistakes, but in the last few minutes we could catch up to 13-10. In the second half we got stuck at 21-15, but thanks to the performance of our goalkeepers we could catch up once again. We have a tough period ahead of us, this games was part of our preparations for that. Good luck to Veszprém in the Champions League!

Congratulation to Veszprém, they won as a stronger team. We started the game a bit tired, but then we were better. Our goalkeepers performed very well. In the second half we could keep Veszprém close and we could play a very good game against them.
 

 

Congratulations to my team for the victory and to Gyöngyös for the good game! After our Champions League game on Thursday we haven’t had enough time for recovery, that’s why I tried to give some play time to everyone. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it did not, we had some issues with concentration – I’m not happy about that. After the break we have a really tough games to play, we need to prepare for that.

We played a good match against our opponent. We did not have so much time to prepare for this match, but we tried to play a good game and I am happy for the victory. After a national week a hard period comes, but we have to be ready for the upcoming challenges.
