Gajic scored the first goal in this game, which started with many technical mistakes from both teams. They missed their opportunities at first, but then started to warm up into scoring goal back to back. Gyöngyös could even take a 4:3 lead for a short period time, after which Veszprém turned the game around. In the 10th minute, Dragan Gajic scored his third goal, which was his 500th in Veszprém jersey overall. At this time, the home team had a 7:6 lead. Mihály Tóth, the goalkeeper of Gyöngyös, could not save many balls, so Buzogány substituted him in the 11th minute. Veszprém could take five goals, 13:8 advantage after which Csaba Konkoly, head coach of the guests called a time out. It did not help at all, as Gyöngyös scored once, while Veszprém scored four times in the next five minutes. To the 26th minute, Veszprém developed ten goals lead thank to Mackovsek, 20:10. The opponent could get to an eight goals difference eventually to the end of the first half, 22:14.
The second half started with technical mistakes as well, and also with the goal of Kent Robin Tonnesen. In the 38th minute Csaba Konkoly called his second time out with a 28:20 Veszprém lead. At the guest team Lubomir Duris was the most efficient, he managed the team well and scored great goals. Despite this, Veszprém could run through his opponent and scored easy goals. The standing was 32:24 at the 44th minute. Kent Robin Tonnesen was already at seven goals in the 47th minute, when three minutes later, Lev Szuharev stepped on court instead of him. Gyöngyös did everything they could but they were not able to catch up to Veszprém, only come closer. Final result: Telekom Veszprém – HE-DO B.Braun Gyöngyös 38:32
David Davis: Congratulations to Gyöngyös because they played fast and good handball. They are fit and strong. We wanted to prepare as good as we can, and with this victory, we will play in the final against Szeged. I asked the players to be serious today. I am satisfied because of the performance. In the first half, we did not start so good, but after that, Mikler Roland saved some goals and we could run. In the second period, they made our job complicated because they kept the tempo high. We finished second in the league but we still have games that we have to prepare for.
Kent Robin Tonnesen: I think it was a good game. Gyöngyös played well and we had some difficulties in defense in the beginning. We were some goals ahead and we could get an eight goals lead to the half time. We played quite good today and we managed to do the things that we trained. Overall, I am happy with the two points. Good luck to Gyöngyös in their remaining games.
Csaba Konkoly: Congratulations to Veszprém, once for the Final4 and once for today’s victory. We had part time goals today but it seemed like our ship will sink very soon in the first half. Maybe nervousness is a better word for our condition than desperation. We conceded easy goals by our own mistakes. Our defense and offense got more stable for the second half. I think it is enough for me to say that we made eight technical mistakes in the first half, and only made three in the second, also, defense got better as well. We showed in the second period that we could play handball too. We could come out positively from this match by not getting knocked out entirely.
Milán Varsandán: Congratulations to Veszprém for the Final4 and today’s win. We tried to play well and smart today to make the difference as small as possible and to give everything we got. We made many mistakes in the first half because of the fast game. I am happy to have been able to keep the tempo high in the second half and that we could be even more efficient. It is a great experience to play here, and thank you for hosting us.
