On the first friendly game of the new season Telekom Veszprém hosted Tatabánya behind closed gates. Bányász scored the first three goals from nice back shots, then the first home goal was scored by Maqueda. Veszprém started sleepy, so the guests could run away by 5-1. Coach Davis had to call a timeout because of a lot of lost balls in the 10. minute (4-8). Both team changed the players, while the home team was coming closer. In the home goal Corrales started and showed some nice saves. Veszprém could catch the guests in the 25. minute with Yahia’s big goal. (13-13). One and half minute to go, Matic called a timeout with their 2 goals advantage. The difference did not change to the break (15-17).
 
The second half started with nice saves on both side, in the home goal Cupara came. The right side Maqueda and Marguc scored the goals, but the guest advantage was still 2 goals (37. min 19-21). Wiszomirski not just saved well, but scored an empty net goal as well. In the 40. minute another home timeout was called, because Tatabánya ran away by 5 goals (19-24). Cupara saved an important penalty, the defense became better, so Veszprém could come back to one goal in the middle of the second half (23-24). Manaskov equalized from penalty and with another one took the lead for Veszprém. 8 minutes before the end Tatabánya was leading again by 2 goals (26-28). After an exciting endgame the guests won by 2 goals.
 

David Davis: It was really bad. It was the biggest nightmare I could have had. We cannot play like this. The team was not on the court. Our opponent had a game last Saturday, they were tired, and still ran more today, and played with better attitude and better ambition. On our side, I could not see anything.
 
Kent Robin Tonnesen: It was good to play again and to play at home. There are lots of things to work on. It was a typical first match, to put it like this. We know that we can expect more from ourselves. We have to continue training and working, and it will be better for sure, step by step.

 

 

Vladan Matic: We are at the beginning of the road, Veszprém and us equally, and it was visible on the court. We got a lot more from the team than we have hoped for so far. This was our third preparation game. It is a good feeling to be able to play like this against a team like Veszprém, especially in Veszprém. It is something to be proud of. We are a pretty good Hungarian team, and we will do our best. The most important for us, is to be fit and in form for the start of the season against Balatonfüred.
 
Gábor Ancsin: This was our third pre-season game, that is why we are aware of this victory. We fought well all the way, hats off to the team. We did some good things, about which we were surprised. The team showed a good face during these three games, which I am happy about. We are at the beginning of the road and we have a lot of new players who still have to integrate.
