Telekom Veszprém - Dinamo Bukarest 47-32

Telekom Veszprém hosted the Romanian Dinamo in the Veszprém Aréna. The guests started the game, but after Corrales’s save Blagotinsek scored the first goal. After quick goals the Slovenian pivote got his first 2 minutes suspension soon. The teams played in extremely high tempo, there were many goals on both side (9. min 7-6). Lékai, Lauge and Yahia led the Veszprém attacks fast and very efficiently. The Egyptian right back was on fire, but he suffered a small injury after one of his goals, so Maqueda replaced him (15. min 12-10). Lékai scored another goal and Építők led by 3 goals. Sipos got his second 2 minutes suspension, but it did not break Veszprém’s rhythm and Ligetvári raised the home advantage (26. min 18-14). Veszprém already reached 20 goals in the first half and built a 7 goals advantage for the break with a spectacular performance.

After the break Marguc scored from the wing, then Strlek scored twice and the home crowd counted ten on the Romanians in the 36. minute (26-16). Dinamo totally collapsed and Veszprém punished all the mistakes of its opponent and increased the advantage to a dozen. In the goal Cupara was that time, who made some nice saves. Maqueda showed his best performance in the season, he scored in a row and had 6 goals in the middle of the half. The guests played 7 against 6, but they conceeded a lot of empty net goals, even Cupara scored one. Coach Ilic gave minutes to the young players, Dörnyei and Ilic scored his own first Champions Leauge goal. Veszprém demoralized Dinamo and took revenge on the defeat in Bucharest.

Xavi Pascual: − Congratulations to Momo and Veszprém, they were really strong in attack and defence too, they deserved the victory. In the first 20 minutes we played well, there were only 2-3 goals between the teams. After that we made a few big mistakes in attack and this way Veszprém could increase their advantage. There were 7 goals between the two teams in the half time, which is a lot, but not impossible to come back. However, in the second half we made even more mistakes in attack, and I tried to do some changes, but nothing worked. The way we played today was not good enough for Champions League. We have to work a lot and fight much harder in the future.

Valentin Marian Ghionea: − Congratulations to Veszprém, they played really good handball today. We weren’t on the same level with them, that’s why the difference was so big. We have to go back to Bucharest and train even harder for the upcoming games.

Momir Ilic: − Congratulations to my team, and respect to Bucharest! I wasn’t too happy with the first 20 minutes, but after that we played much better, we’ve been running a lot. We have to continue like this, we have a few hard games left this year.

Borisz Dörnyei: − Congratulations to Bucharest! We wanted to even the score after losing in Bucharest, but the first 20 minutes we didn’t play really well. I’m very thankful for the trust and I’m extremely happy to score my first Champions League goals. We have no time to celebrate though, we play in Dabas on Saturday and and then in Flensburg next week.
