Telekom Veszprém started well with Tonnesen, Marguc and Strlek scoring right in the beginning. Marguc’s goal was his 800th in Veszprém jersey. The guests could only score three goals in 10 minutes, while Veszprém scored non-stop thanks to their wings mainly, who established a 7:3 lead. Top scorer of Cegléd in the lead, Marcell Gábor, stayed down with ankle pain and had to leave the court. Meanwhile the Veszprém wingers did not stop, Manuel Strlek scored four fastbreak goals and made the difference ten goals. With a bigger lead in mind, Coach Davis sent the young players on the court, Szuharev and Melnyicsuk both got their opportunities in the first half. The score was 17:6 at the time. Veszprém without doubt dominated the game, Sterbik saved well and Nenadic scored his 200th goal in Veszprém jersey in the 25th minute. In the last minute of the period, even Melnyicsuk could score. The standing in half time is a 22:10 lead for the home team.
The second half started with a Nenadic goal and a Mikler save. The fastbreaks carried on but with different wingers, as Gajic and Manaskov took the court. Cegléd scored their first goal in the 34th minute. Until the 40th minute, Veszprém piled up a 16 goals difference with 29:13 on the scoreboard. Our wingers were the most efficient, they played well. Bence Szűcs got the opportunity on the line and scored in the 45th minute, making it 33:16. In the 48th minute, Mikler took the stage and saved a penalty, and saved the chance from the rebound as well. Cegléd showed no resistance, and although they scored from their opportunities at the end, it was not enough. Final result: 41:28
David Davis: I am satisfied with the performance of my players because when I arrived in October and played the game that we knew our opponents are in the bottom of the table, was complicated to play. Now everyone was very focused. Of course, I am sorry for the injuries, but my players are always trying to play as hard as they can but clean. We just wanted to keep up the level that we have been playing until now. Starting Friday, we will be preparing as best as we can for the final of the league. Congratulations to Cegléd, because they played well. Naturally, the difference is big because our team has arrived where they should be, to fight for the league and to fight for the Final4.
Dragan Gajic: I think we played a good game, serious with good tempo. Everybody got the chance to play. We are ending one chapter of the season happily and motivated. We are impatient for the last part of the season, and that is the most important in this period, to go to these finals in good sensations. As Coach Davis said, from Friday, we start a new season and we will see how we will do. Congrats to Cegléd as well, for a fair game.
Károly Nagy: Congratulations to Veszprém and good luck to them in the Final4. The game was as we have thought, we could not compete with their first line but once the younger players came in on their side, we could show what we want to play. The game was fair, but two of my players got injured. They got these injuries because the physical difference between the teams is huge. Our team is in the beginning of the road, while Veszprém is on professional level.
Bence Szabó: In the first half, we could not attack against their six-meter wall and got a lot of goals from fastberaks. All of their wings scored a lot today. When the youngsters came on the court in Veszprém, we could compete and the difference was less. We can be satisfied with our second half performance. Congratulations to Veszprém for the Champions League Final4 and good luck to them.
