The home team started the game fast, after 6 minutes play they were leading by 4-1. The Veszprém’s wall was tight, while in attack the team captain Nilsson was scoring a lot. Had to wait for 12. minute for the first guest timeout (8-2). Lauge stepped on the court again after his face injury, in the goal Cupara was quite good with some great saves. The second half started with a Cegléd’s penalty and fast break goal. Ceglé came back by 7 goals within 6 minutes (19-12). Nenadic switched higher speed and scored some brilliant goals, so the difference was 10 goals again. The youngsters in Cegléd became tired, so Veszprém scored easily the fast break goals. The home defence, in that time in front of Corrales, was an unbreakable wall for the guests. Davis continously rotated his team in defence and attack as well. For the last 10 minutes the teams turned with a 13 goals Veszprém lead (29-16). Although in the endgame Veszprém missed some clear chances, their self confident win was not in danger.
David Davis: I am satisfied because we played a good game. I am happy, that we took our opponent seriously, so now we can travel to Nantes for our first Champions League game in a good mood.
Manuel Strlek: We can be satisfied, we played a good game. This match gives us a good basis for the Champions League start. With this performance we can wait self confidently the Nantes game on the next week.
Károly Nagy: We knew what to expect. We are still a shaping team, who is trying to take in the rhythm of the first division. Those young players who were playing in the second division last year, were a bit unconfident, and still trying to adapt to the atmosphere. In the second period, our more experienced players stepped on the court that is why we could score more goals than in the first.
Bence Zakics: Congratulation to Veszprém. They played a good game, for us not these are the matches that we have to win, but for example against the small Veszprém. The first half was really bad, but in the second we were better. We are going to continue the work and I wish good luck for Veszprém in the CL.
