Telekom Veszprém - Aalborg Handbold 30:32
Telekom Veszprém hosted the Danish champion Aalborg behind close gates. The first score was scored by Marguc after a counter attack, but Mollgaard answered back quickly. Like one week ago, the teams started in high tempo today, too (6. min 2-4). Both team led fast, creative attacks, the goalkeepers could not show saves (12. min 6-10). The first part of the half was definitely about the Danish team, they were confused less because of the empty hall. Davis had to call a timeout at the result 7-13. Lauge got a 2 minutes suspension and Aalborg increased the lead from penalty. Székely changed Cupara and Veszprém came back by 4 goals (22. min 11-15). With Borozan’s goals the home team came closer, but for the break the difference was 3 goals.
The second half started with a Borozan goal and Veszprém was in powerplay. Both team played a bit slower and more tactically (38. min 18-21). Székely showed some nice saves, but in attack still were a lot of mistakes. The teams got many 2 minutes suspensions thanked to the hard defences. Reaching the middle of the half Aalborg was leading by 4 goals again. Nenadic pulled his team, his goals kept close Veszprém. The teams turned for the last 10 minutes with a 5 goals Danish lead. With Lauge’s fast goals Veszprém came back by 2 goals. The endgame was really exciting. Nenadic missed the last Veszprém attack, Aalborg took a timeout and won the game.
David Davis: This game was just as complicated as last week’s. We did not manage to put the defense together during the game, and we did not reach the desired level. Unfortunately, this was our first official loss of the season, but we continue to work because a lot of important games are coming. There is no time to put our heads down. Congratulations to my players, who work really hard every day in, day out. Although it is painful to lose at home, we continue to fight.
Márton Székely: In the first half Aalborg could lead fast counter attacks, we let them too many goals to score. In the second half we missed our key chances. We have to close down this game, because on the next week an important game awaits us against Kiel.
Stefan Madsen: We are happy for the win. We have already shown last week and we can be head-to-head with a top team like Veszprém, and we had a feeling then that we can surprise them. We are happy that we succeeded. We scored a lot of goals in offense, we defended well and our goalkeepers did their job today as well.
Simon Gade: We played very well in the first half, in the last 10 minutes of the second half there was a small panic because of the top players of Veszprém. It is a huge victory for us.
