Szeged – Veszprém pregame statements

 

Our head coach and players told us their expectations about the first leg of the Hungarian championship final.

 

Ljubomir Vranjes: I think it is going to be a very tough game. They are playing at home and they are preparing for that as well. I think we have to play one of the best games this season, to be able to win there. We know each other very well; the deciding factor can be the daily form. In handball, you also have the defense and goalkeepers that are very important. We are preparing for that as well.

 

 

Mirko Alilovic: Anything can decide between the two teams. One mistake or a bad day can decide a lot. We have to be careful, because they will try everything to make a good result for the second game. We will go there to win, because we do not want everything to be decided in Veszprém. I think it is not an advantage nor a disadvantage that the first game is there. It is an advantage a bit that if we fail to achieve a good result, we can correct that mistake in front of our fans. Of course, we should play there to win, like that is the last game, after that, come back to Veszprém with a good result, and celebrate the title at home. I would be satisfied with a victory of few goals. Maybe 2-3 goal win would be a good result. I do not think that it is good to win with a lot of goals because it can make you feel relaxed and comfortable. Szeged is a good team, and they can surprise us. Any kind of victory is good for us, to give us confidence.

 

 

Máté Lékai: Every game we play against Szeged is a close one. The deciding factor will be, as it was in the cup final, the goalkeepers’ performance and defense. It can give a base to the attacks and for the fastbreaks as well. The fact that we start in Szeged is not an advantage, nor a disadvantage. We finished second in the regular season last year, and despite that, we could celebrate in Szeged. The fortunate thing about the home second-leg is that if we win, we can celebrate a championship title at home finally but this is still very far and will be a tough fight. I would only be satisfied with a first-leg victory.

 

 

Gasper Marguc: Of course, it will be a tough game, like always against Szeged. We expect something like we did in the cup final. They play at home but we would like to get a good result for the second-leg. We want to win, if it is possible, and I think it is possible. Overall we are the better team, but I think we have to show it on the court, especially in the first game, to have good result for the home game. I think the defense can decide the game, because I assume there will not be many goals, as it happened in the cup final. We played really good defense, and Szeged did also. I think we were a bit more concentrated in the decisive moments and I hope it will be the same this time.
