The matches of Group “A” and “B” were held on Sunday. In the first one, France gained a confident 10-goal triumph over Serbia so they qualified into the next round. Poland performed similarly after a hard start and they won over Macedonia in a tight game in front of 15 000 visitors in the Tauron Arena. Although, in the last minute the ball was on Lazarov’s side, they could not equalize and the Polish team managed to save the opponent’s last shot so the 1-goal gap remained.

In Group “B” Belarus defeated Iceland with one goal; Aron Palmarsson scored 4 goals. The match turned out to be really productive which led to a new record in the European Championship with respect to the total amount of goals scored during one match. The former record also has been connected to Iceland which had ended the game against Austria with a draw (37:37) in 2010.
In the other match Norway gained a 3-goal victory over Croatia. Since 2002 our Southern neighbours have not got as many goals as this time so they could not win even if Duvnjak’s performance was considered to be the best of the match. Their goalkeeper Mirko Alilovic saved 9 shots (21% effectiveness), while Ivan Sliskovic scored 2 goals.
With these two results, all of the four teams will face the next group round with 2 goals.

The other two teams played on Monday. In Group “C” Slovenia faced Spain so a right wing and a left wing of Veszprém clashed, namely Gasper Marguc and Cristian Ugalde. The former one ended the game with 2 goals, while thanks to Ugalde’s one goal the Spanish team could equalize at the end of the game.
In the other game, Germany defeated Sweden with one goal even if the Northern team had a 4-goal team by the time-out and the gap still remained even in the 47th minute. Our pivot player Andreas Nilsson scored 3 goals in the Scandinavian team.

In Group “D” Hungary clashed with Russia. Unfortunately, our team made mistakes especially in the first half; therefore they had to be focused during the entire game. In the second half the Hungarian team had the chance to equalize but they missed it so the game ended with the 1-goal victory of Russia. László Nagy scored 5 goals, Gergő Iváncsik 5 goals, while Roland Mikler saved 6 shots (26% effectiveness).
In the other game of the group, Montenegro played against Denmark and led the game in the first half which remained for a while.
In the 54th minute there was still a draw (28:28) but this was followed by the former runner-up of the European Championship scoring and winning the match.
