On Friday and Saturday, a total of 8 matches were held in the first round of the European Championship in Poland. For us, the Hungary-Montenegro game in the group D was the most important one, which ended with our 6-goal victory. In the Hungarian team, Gergő Iváncsik scored 4 goals; László Nagy ended with 1 goal, while Schuch Timuzsin had a significant role in defending before Roland Mikler who gave 31% effectiveness saving 13 shots and was chosen as the game’s best player. The other game of our group ended up as it had been expected; the runner-up of the previous Championship the Danish team defeated the Russians with 6 goals.

The matches of group C were also held on Saturday and some players of Veszprém got to play in the two games. During the Sweden-Slovenian game, Andreas Nilsson did not contribute to the Swedish victory, while Gasper Marguc scored 2 goals for his team which decreased the 8-goal gap in the second half and almost overtook the Northern team. In the other match the Spanish team gained victory over Germany, Cristian Ugalde scored 1 goal.

On Friday, on the first day of the tournament the title defender France gained a 7-goal victory over Macedonia in the group A even if the game seemed to be ended with a draw 15 minutes before the end. The hosts defeated Serbia in an extremely tight game thanks to Szmal saving the penalty in the end.

In the group B Mirko Alilovic played in the Croatian team which could win over Belarus with 6 goals. Ivan Sliskovic contributed to the victory of our Southern neighbor country. The other match of the group was much tighter but with the leadership of Aron Palmarsson scoring 8 goals Iceland won against Norway with 1 goal thanks to the last goal of Sigurdsson scored 10 seconds before the end.
