Telekom Veszprém travelled to Moscow to play against Spartak in the SEHA – Gazprom League. The home team started the game and Székely already saved the first Russian attempt. Szűcs got the lead for our young team, and then the next goal only came in the 4th minute by Mackovsek, who made the standing 2:0. Moscow called for a timeout in the 6th minute, at a 0:4 Veszprém lead. The first Spartak goal was scored in the 9th minute, at a 1:6 result for the guests. Székely saved well many times and even saved a penalty by the 12th minute (2:7). The Russians started to get close in the 19th minute, when the difference was five goals between the parties, 6:11. Péter Gulyás called a timeout at 9:11, because the opponent got really close. The timeout did not help, Spartak got even closer to one goal, and in the 22nd minute, they equalized to 11:11. They took the lead in the 24th minute. By the end of the half, the two teams were head to head and Veszprém even got into a man advantage, but the game remained a tie for the end of the half, 14:14.
The second half was started with a missed Veszprém chance, but fortunately Spartak could not score from their attack either. Ilic equalized the Russian lead in the 34th minute. Spartak could not do anything with our wall, that is why we could take a three goals lead. We still had the lead in the 40th minute, 16:19, mostly thank to Ilic’s goals and Székely’s saves. The youngsters even went for a four goals lead in the 44th minute, 17:21. The difference started to melt, and for the 50th minute, only two were left. Spartak got a huge boost by the play of Dereven, and they could come back to the game easily. The difference was only one goal in the 53rd minute, 22:23, then the Russians managed to equalize. Székely saved a chance in a very important moment in the 58th minute, then Mackovsek scored huge a goal, gaining a two goals lead for the end of the half. Our young team managed to win the game at the end, 23:26 and we still lead the group with three victories out of three games. Good job guys!
Péter Gulyás: I am very happy with Momir Ilic to be in the SEHA league. Today was a very good game, especially with this young team and they fought for their future. They showed that they have everything to be a great player. We are very proud of them. The key was our defense and our goalkeeper Székely. We played some bad things in attack and did not accept the physical difference. Our defense was really good and Székely helped us a lot. I am very happy that we could come back to the SEHA League like this.
Márton Székely: We came here without any pressure. The most difficult thing for me was to keep the defense together. They are young and they need learning steps, which comes with only these kind of matches. We had two video trainings about Spartak, so we prepared well as you can see.
Igor Levshin: Congratulations to our Fans, it was a big handball day today. Moscow provided a match in the SEHA League. The start of the game was not good for us. Thanks to my team for equalizing and for leading at one point. I would like to congratulate the guest head coach and he is right about the future of the young players. We are disappointed with the result of course. We need to practice more and we hoped that we would win today.
