In the upcoming weeks we will look back on Telekom Veszprém's 2016/17 performance in each tournaments in a form of an article. In this first article we will look back on the SEHA League.

Telekom Veszprém started their 3rd season in the south-east handball league, on the 3rd of September in Celje. We managed to clinch a comfortable 5 goals win in Slovenia but just one week later we suffered a 7 goals loss from Vardar Skopje. Besides this defeat only Zagreb could win against us, in the tight schedule of December when we had to play 5 games in 7 days. We played 18 games in the regular season from which we won 14 and achieved 2 draw with 2 defeats. We scored 521 goals which gives a 28,75 goals in average per game. This performance landed us in the second place of the ranking right after the almost flawless Vardar. Our biggest goal difference came from the game against Gorenje Velenje at home. The result was 36:27 which was a 9 goals difference. The top scorer of this season from Veszprém was Momir Ilic with 80 goals.

The 2nd place in the regular season meant that Veszprém qualified for the SEHA League Final4 for the 3rd time in 3 years. This year it was held in Brest, Belarus between the 7th and 8th of April. Alongside the host, Brest, Telekom Veszprém, Vardar Skopje and PPD Zagreb qualified. According to the fixtures Veszprém played against Brest and Zagreb played against Vardar. Our semi-final was held on the 7th of April and 8 p.m. and it brought a fierce fight between the two sides. The result in the half time was 14:14 and at the end result was 29:29 so the decision went to penalties just as a year before. The winning penalty was scored by Andreas Nilsson ending the game in a 33:31 win for Veszprém. In the semi-final Momir Ilic scored 7 while Aron Palmarsson scored 6 goals. In the final we faced the Macedonian side, Vardar Skopje, which we were not able to defeat in the regular season, a loss in Macedonia and a draw in Hungary. In the first half we were head to head with them but in the second period they made a 5-0 run, which was too much for us. The result was a 26:21 loss, which decided that Veszprém will not win again after two consecutive championship titles. In the final Momir Ilic scored 5 while Lékai Máté scored 4 goals.
