Season summary: Hungarian Cup

  

In our first season summary article, we will look back at the Hungarian Cup.

 

Telekom Veszprém was waiting for the Hungarian Cup competition 2018/19 as title holder. The “Építők” had ten victorious finals in a row before that and all together twenty-seven. There was a change comparing to the previous years because we had to join to the competition already at the quarter final part. It was one game and we got Grundfos Tatabánya away after the draw. We played against them on 12 March and could lead all game long and win 21:30. Our top scorer on that game was Borut Mackovsek.

 

 

The city of Debrecen hosted again the Hungarian Cup final four in the first weekend of April and we faced RotaChorm Dabas in the semi-final. Already in the 5th minute, we were leading by 1:5 and at the halftime 6:16. The final result was 16:38 for us. This victory meant Telekom Veszprém could qualify to the final and fight against the big rival MOL-Pick Szeged that defeated Balatonfüred in the another semi-final.

 

Unfortunately, the final did not go well for us because we finished the first half in a seven-goal deficit. In the second half, our team tried to make a huge comeback leaded by captain László Nagy. But we did not have enough time to equalize and suffered a 27:28 loss. Szeged won the Hungarian Cup at first time since 2008.
