Season Summary: Hungarian championship

 

In our second season summary article, we will look back at the K&H League.

 

Telekom Veszprém, just as in the cup, started the season as titleholders in the K&H League 2017/18 season, which was started at home against Csurgó with a big win. The home team won by 16 goals. After this a winning streak of 20 games started, until 10 March, when we lost our first game in Hungary, at home against Szeged. Our biggest victory happened at home against Cegléd, when we won 41:15. We played 26 games in the regular season, our of which 25 was victory and only one defeat occurred. Our top 3 scorer in the regular season were Dragan Gajic with 96 goals, Gasper Marguc with 90 goals and Iman Jamali with 73 goals. During this season 23 players stepped on court and scored 906 goals in total. Besides this, they got 64 yellow cards, 98 suspensions and from 50 penalties, we scored 38 goals.

 

 

In the championship final, we met MOL-Pick Szeged, as we always did in the last few years. The first game was held in Szeged in 12 May and unfortunately, the home team won 32:28, which meant that they travel to Veszprém with a 4-goal advantage. Our top scorer in the first game was Dejan Manaskov with six goals. The second game was in Veszprém, 20 May, but Telekom did not start well at all. They struggled to get the lead; the teams went on break with Szeged leading. For the second period, Veszprém got a hang of themselves and managed to climb back from the deficit and slowly take over the game. Around the 40th minute, they turned the game around and lead. After this a crazy running started for the gold medal, because Veszprém needed a four goals win to finish first. Sadly, the result has seen a three goals win, which was just short of what they needed. The top scorer in the second game was Kent Robin Tonnesen with five goals. Szeged became champions after 11 years, while Veszprém finished second in the league.
