Season’s end summary – Hungarian Championship

In the following weeks we take a look back on the play of MVM Veszprém’s team on the different tournaments in the season 2015/16. In the 3rd part we focus on the Hungarian Championship.

The team of MVM Veszprém has joined into the fights of the Hungarian Championship in the playoff and they joined to the first five teams, which were the followings: MOL-Pick Szeged, Grundfos Tatabánya KC, Balatonfüred KSE, Csurgói KK, Váci KSE. Compared to the previous season’s competition, in this year there was no championship final so the results in the playoff decided the final ranking. Thanks to this, there was a great excitement as for the derby of the two favorites, which were Veszprém and Szeged.

Our team has played its first game in the tournament on 16, March against Csurgó on home court and they have won with 32:23. After nearly a week László Sótonyi and his team has welcomed us and we have won with 9 goals again (22:31).

After this there were 3 matches away in Balatonfüred, RTatabánya and Vác and “Építők” have won all of it. 4 home court matches has followed this against Balatonfüred, Tatabánya, Szeged and Vác. The team has also won all of the games. The hardest game was against Szeged. Veszprém played imprecisely especially in the first half and at the end of the game. This one-goal victory (31:29) has adumbrated a very hard game in the last round in Szeged.

MVM Veszprém’s team has arrived in the sports hall on 14, May with the intention to win. In order to get the Championship Title, according to the worst case scenario only a one goal defeat was allowed to get. The 2-goal defeat has not occurred fortunately. Veszprém was very conscious and in the half-time they had a 4-goal advantage. Szeged did everything in order to win so there was a draw at the end of the game which meant that MVM Veszprém became champion for the 24th time.

Scuch Timuzsin, Mirsad Terzic and Renato Sulic were on the court on every match in the championship and Renato Sulic scored the most, which means 29 goals.

Out of the 10 matches we were the most successful as for the goals against Vác on home court and we got the most goals from Szeged on home court again.
