The Veszprém played in the SAP Arena in Mannheim in front of 7250 people. The match had a double stake for the team. With a victory they could have secured their firs place in the group C and could have continued their streak of unbeatenness.
In the first half the Löwen played excellently and increased its advantage step by step. The visitor team didn't have any appreciable moment. In the middle of the first half the home team had a four-goal advantage (9:5). Petersson scored many goals.
In the second half the home team scored four more goals the Veszprém could be sorry for the terrible endgame especially (30. minute, 18:10). In the second half the German superiority continued they scored many goals. In the middle of the game they were already leading with 11 goals (24:13). In the second half there was a chance to catch up to a six-goal difference but the players made many mistakes so the Veszprém couldn't close up. In the endgame the goal could be only to avoid the defeat. We could get closer to the home team with some goals (32:25 is the end).
The continuation will come in February in the CL. Against the Celje our goal can only be to get the first place in the group.
Antonio Carlos Ortega:
I congratulate the Löwen they were much better than us today. We prepared for their 6-0 and 5-1 defense but unfortunately we could not react suitably to the second one on the court. The main problem was in our attacks we made many mistakes so they scored many easy goals. In the first half we gave away 10 balls and they took the advantage of these situations. This was a good lesson for us. We didn't show anything of our skills. I am angry with myself and also with my team. We shouldn't play like this.
Nicolaj Jacobsen:
We nearly played a perfect match; we defended well and started well. We took the advantage of the mistakes of our rival. We could play on a very high level in the first half and also in the first 15 minutes of the second half. At the end we became exhausted. In spite of our victory I still consider Veszprém as a possible winner of the series.
Patrick Groetzki:
I'm very happy for the victory. This match was important for us to reach our goal the second place in the group. Things worked out like in my dreams.
