Telekom Veszprém visited the Polish champions PGE Vive Kielce in the VELUX EHF Champions League’s group phase. The game started with a huge goal by Lékai, then came a continuous Veszprém lead that was equalized almost all the time by Kielce. The Polish could lead for the first time in the 6th minute. In the 14th minute Moraes was suspended for two minutes, with which opportunity Alex Dujshebaev lived right along. Both sides were precise in attack and the goalkeepers did not show anything, which made the teams head-to-head. In the 23rd minute Kielce took a two goals lead, 15:13. Five minutes before the end of the half, Veszprém could equalize with a Nenadic-Marguc play. The last attack of the half was for Kielce, But Cupara managed to save the shot and left the sides in a stalemate for the break, 17:17.
The second half was started with a back court goal from Gajic, and the team managed to get out well from the suspension of Borozan. Terzic conceded his second suspension, while Kielce took a two goals lead, 20:18, and a minute later, even went for a three goals lead. In the 40th minute Moryto scored a penalty keeping the three goals difference. The suspensions came for both sides and Kielce lived with their man advantage and took a four goals lead of 28:24 in the 45th minute. Veszprém did a 4:0 run in the 49th minute and came back to a 29:29 draw. Veszprém defended off a long home attack, but for the lead, Nenadic hit the crossbar. For the 57th minute, Kielce took a second wind and made the result 33:30. There was no turning back from that so Kielce won the game 34:33.
David Davis: We did not start the game as we wanted to. In the second half we were fighting, trying to come back but in the end, I think the save Wolff made on Nenadic was the key for the success of Kielce.
Manuel Strlek: The 34 goals we conceded was too much today. We wanted to play more calmly in the second half, but we did not manage. Kielce had a good defense and I would like to congratulate them and good luck in the future.
Talant Dujshebaev: Congratulations to our team. Veszprém is one of the four best teams in the world right now. We lost against them the last four games. I would like to thank our fans for the amazing atmosphere. I am sad because Branko Vujovic could not play today, but Alex Dujshebaev had a great game. I am happy for the win.
Alex Dujshebaev: Congratulations to Veszprém for the game. They are one of the best team in Europe. It was a tough game, I was sure that we have to fight until the end. Huge thanks to our supporters for the wonderful atmosphere.
