My Dream Team - Antal Szücs

 

The presentation of dream teams are not stopping after the players of Telekom Veszprém. The staff members put their all-star teams together but did that out of the ordinary. Our masseur, Antal Szücs was a Hungarian champion in marathon running in 2001, hence we asked him to make his team up of long-distance runners who are the best in his opinion, with a little explanation to each person.

 

He was the Athlete of the Year in 1955, not in Hungary, but in the world. He held 6 world record from 1500 to 10000 meters. My former coach, János Szekeres was the apprentice of Iharos. I think he is the best runner of Hungary ever.

 

He is a four time Olympic champion runner, from Finland who won his medals from 5000 to 10000 meters. He was the one who could almost win 5000 and 10000 meters but at that time they had a semi-final and final, which is why he could not accomplish that.

 

He is a runner from the GDR, and a 2 times Olympic champion. He won in 1976 and 1980. He was the second athlete who could defend his Olympic title in a marathon.

 

He is the first man, who could defend his title in a marathon. He first won in Rome in 1960 on bare foot with a time of 2:15:40 after that in shoes in Tokyo he won with a world record of 2:12:32.

 

I think he is the best runner of the world so far. He did extreme runs from 1500 meters all the way to the marathon. He was an Olympic champion as well, many times. He made the biggest race to the finish as well and won by a thread. Miracle runner.

 

He achieved unbelievable result, and won many Olympic titles. He was a world record holder in both 10000 meters and in marathon as well. Extreme.

 

He is treated like a God in Morocco. I had the fortune to massage him, although they do not let anybody near him. He won the 1500 meters and the 5000 meters in Athens, which has not been done before. He is the only runner who could run 3:30 on 1500 meters 87 times. This is something that may never be done ever again.
