Momir Ilic retires

 

Today, Momir Ilic has declared his retirement from professional handball.

 

Momir Ilic started his professional career in his hometown, in Samot Arandelovac, where he played until 2001 before signing to Kolubara-Lazarevac. In 2002 he went to Fidelika Subotica , where he played until 2004. After this he made a step to be able to debut in the European handball stage, and signed to Gorenje Velenje. He could perform in the Champions League in Velenje and lived with his opportunity as he scored 91 goals in his two seasons in Slovenia. His breakthrough did not go unnoticed, as he went to German side Gummerbach after Slovenia. He played there from 2006 until 2009 and won an EHF Cup in his last season there. After this, he moved to THW Kiel, where he won everything, a handball player can win with a Bundesliga team. He became a two times Champions League winner, three times German champion and German Cup winner and two times German Super Cup winner before joining Veszprém in 2013.

 

With the “Építők” he qualified 5 times into the VELUX EHF FINAL4 and won 5 Hungarian championship titles so far, with 5 Hungarian Cups and 2 SEHA League titles. He was the top scorer of the Champions League twice: in the season 2014/15 he scored 114 goals and in the season 2015/16 he scored 120 goals. During his years in Veszprém, he played on 266 games and scored 1162 goals until now.

 

In the Serbian national team he had 125 games and scored 456 goals. His biggest success happened in 2012, when he finished second with his national team at the home organized European championship. He was also voted as MVP of the tournament.

 

Momir will most likely stay at the Club, but his precise position will be decided by the board later.
