One of the best 3 teams of the team
“We left Cologne with anger and disappointment but we got many experiences and we also drew the consequences that our team did not get the deserved respect after getting into the Final Four for the first time. I have to say that they must have seen us as “newcomers” from the East; however we had been strong and well-prepared. But this is only history and this weekend a new chapter will begin. We expect a whole different awarding thanks to our glorious triumphs from last May until present days. We learned from last year’s events and this year we will do everything in order to avoid that. I’m not exaggerating when I state that MKV-MVM Veszprém is among the best three teams of the world.” – Károly Fonyó said to Telekom Sports News Service.
Mikler is a gift
According to the head of the club, they made the right decision when they entered the SEHA League in which the team gained a confident triumph.
“We have been through several high-standard games of this tournament which helped us prepare and gain more experience; moreover we performed well and won 5 matches out of 5 in the Hungarian Championship and the Cup against Szeged. Now we play with better tactics than last year and we are equal opponents if we are compared to Kiel, Barcelona, or Kielce. The whole squad is great; I would highlight the performance of Roland Mikler who is a real winner.”
When the new team of Veszprém was set up, they made a 3-year plan and provided a firm background.
“Last year we planned to get into the Final Four of the Champions League, this year to get into the final game and next year we want to win the first place. Knowing the opponent team’s qualities and weaknesses, I think we can try to win the most prestigious handball tournament in Europe again with high hopes. This is a special challenge, and the team which can give outstanding performance within 24 hours can win in the end. In other words: it is vital to have good condition on that certain day. On Saturday evening, in the second game of the semi-finals we are going to play against the well-prepared German THW Kiel, which means that we will have about 3 hours less to recover and play the next day. We can reduce the difference only if we can play a second game on Sunday that is we are finalists.” – the Head of MKB-MVM Veszprém added who is hoping that umpiring will be more fair this year.
