Telekom Veszprém will travel to Sweden this weekend to face IFK Kristianstad. We asked our head coach and players about their expectations before the next round of the VELUX EHF Champions League.
David Davis: Kristianstad did not start so good in the Champions League. In their last game against Montpellier, they were losing but they achieved a draw in the end. It is clear that every player of Ola Lindgren is a fighter. I know them very well because we played them a lot in my years in Vardar. It is a young team but when they play at home, they give everything. They are dangerous, and we can see that from other seasons as well. We need to be concentrated for this game. Of course, we cannot lose because nobody did there and we really need those two points.
Roland Mikler: They are young, fast, and very dangerous on home court. I am sure that they will not try to play against a full defense but will try to use fast breaks to score more often. Our defense is something that is hard for them to break so they will try to get into clear shooting positions. We have to pay attention to our own game play, and to deliver as efficiently as possible. It almost does not matter who the opponent is. We are on a road where we are trying to perfect our game by every match along the way. The most important thing is to be able to deliver those commands that the coach says on the court. We respect our opponent, but we will try to play our own game and show our top form.
Iman Jamali: I think it is going to be a hard game because Kristianstad always plays well at home. Every season they surprise some big teams at home in the Champions League because they do not have pressure. They run a lot and shoot well. This is why I think that they believe that they can win against anybody at home. It will be good for me to be back there because I had an amazing season in Sweden. I felt very good there and it felt like home for me. I am glad to be able to see my friends again. Of course, we are going there to win.
Gasper Marguc: We are excited about the game and we would like to get back on the winning streak with a nice victory. We know it is not going to be easy because the opponent plays fast handball. I think we are improving, even though we lost the last game against Löwen. We were playing a little bit better. I trust we can to continue in this direction against Kristianstad. I am excited and hope to play my first Champions League game this season and motivates me of course to help the team, and also to stay healthy.
