Introducing Celje

On the 25th of August, we are going to introduce all teams at the Square in front of Veszprém Arena that are participating on the first ever Veszprém Handball City Festival. In the next 3 days we are going to give a closer look on each team. The second team: RK Celje Pivovarna Lasko.

 

Celje tried their luck in the SEHA League last year as rookies. They played 18 games in the season and won 11 of them while losing 7 times. As it is known they were only short with 1 points to qualify for the Final4 in Brest. Their right wing, Blaz Janc became the top scorer of the league by scoring 110 goals on 16 games. After him the team's second best shooter was Luka Zvizej with 59 goals.

 

 

They joined the Slovenian championship in the playoffs. It was a series including 6 teams where everyone plays against the other. Celje finished with 9 victories and 1 draw which made them the Champions of Slovenia.

 

The Slovenians were in the same Group B as their opponent of Saturday. They played twice against Kielce, resulting an away loss and a home victory. The away game ended in a 31:23 loss while at home they achieved a 34:33 win. This last win could not help them as they finished on the 7th place of the Group with 3 victories, 3 draws and 7 defeats, meaning they could not qualify for the best of 16.

 

Celje signed 6 new players for the upcoming season. Daniel Dujshebaev came from Valladolid. Luka Mitrovic came from the rival side Gorenje Velenje. Branko Vujovic joined Celje after parting ways with Kielce while Igor Anic joined from Saran HB. Futhermore came Jan Jurecic from Krka and Aljaz Panjtar from Urbanscape RD. The departing players are Miha Zarabec who joins Kiel and the Bundesliga. Blaz Janc joins Kielce while Vid Poteko joined the Belarussian Meshkov Brest. Besides them Luka Zvizej left to Maribor, Povilas Babarskas left to Bergenz and Arthur Malburg Patrianova left to Benfica.

 

Celje will play against KS Vive Kielce on Saturday at 3:30 p.m on the Veszprém Handball City Festival.
