William Accambray, the French player of Telekom Veszprém, suffered a torn Achilles tendon on 10 December against Tatabánya in away. A few days after that our Olympic champion left back went under surgery and does his rehabilitation in France ever since. He visited Veszprém in latest days that is when we had a chat with him.
Welcome back to Veszprém William! How do you feel yourself?
Thank you. I feel good, but I am impatient to begin my rehabilitation treatment.
How do you spend your days now with a cast on your leg?
I was in France to see all my family for Christmas and for the New Year. I visited my dad in Paris and my mom and brother in the South of France. I saw all my friends also. I cannot do anything with my leg now, so I am just waiting but I could follow the European championships from home.
What do you feel and what does the doctors say, when can you return?
I do not have a date exactly, because this injury takes up 5-6 months at least. So my season is already over, I am waiting for next year. My rehab will begin 26th of February and I will begin it in France but as soon as I can run a bit I will be back in Veszprém.
What are your thoughts about the European championship and the French national team?
I think it is a good result for France. They finished 3rd which is not bad. They only lost one game in the semi-final against Spain who played really good. On that game many players performed not too well. Immediately when I was injured I knew I would miss this championship, and I was disappointed but this is sport. I could not do anything about it.
We saw in the social media that you have a restaurant. Did you have time now to take care of business? Can you tell us more about the place?
Yes I had a bit of time now. The restaurant is called l’Atelier St-Roch, it is in Montpellier and I run it together with my friend. It is a French restaurant but we cook according to the season. We change menus probably every month, depending on what food item has the season. Everyone is welcome to visit the place if they come by.
What do you expect from your Club in the rest of the season?
I hope we will win every game. It will not be easy but we have ambitions. We are in 1st place of the championship right now. The objective is to win the Champions League and I think we have the team for that. I hope we will do that at the end of the season.
How did you feel when your teammates stepped on court against Cegléd in jerseys wishing you a quick recovery?
It was great. My mom called me immediately saying, “Did you see the shirt they were wearing?”. It was really kind and nice. It went directly to my heart but I was sad at the same time because there was the same shirt for Mátyás Győri a week later.
Finally, what is your message to the team and its Supporters?
I wish you all the best for the rest of the season. I will be back soon and I want to feel the support of the fans on the court one more time.
