In a few days, Rasmus Lauge Schmidt will officially be a Veszprém player. We asked the fresh world champion and the back-to-back Bundesliga winner left back about his move to his new home.
In a few days, you are officially going to be the player of Telekom Veszprém. Are you excited for the season ahead of us?
Of course, I am excited. I am excited for a lot of things, like living in a new country with my family. I am excited for the new challenges that lie ahead of me.
How did you see your last season in Flensburg?
It was a great season. It was maybe the best season for me altogether with the German championship title and the World championship at home. We lost only four points in the Bundesliga, and I received the MVP title as well. I am really satisfied and happy about the season and I hope to continue with maybe more in Veszprém as well.
How was your farewell from your last team?
In the beginning, the fans were a bit mad at me for changing clubs, of course. That is how it should be, but the atmosphere changed quickly. The farewell was great, there was a lot of support for me. They acknowledged for what I did for the club. It was really nice and everyone was very sweet.
How is the moving to your new home?
Moving is always difficult and it is always a lot of stress. Now we have all our stuffs in Hungary, everything is moved. Now my wife and her parents are unpacking as we are speaking right now. So, I will go home now to start helping. We are unpacking for the next three or four days and then travel back to Denmark, where we will be the whole summer.
You are moving here with your family, will they like the new environment? What do you think?
I hope they will like it. It is going to be new and of course, it is going to be a challenge. I hope our daughter will like the new kindergarten and I also hope that we will have a great time here. My family is everything to me, so if they are well and happy, then I am even more happy.
What are your first impressions of Hungary?
We like it here so far. There is nice weather, we live in a nice house. In the next couple of days, when we hopefully unpacked everything, we can have a look around Veszprém and Lake Balaton. Maybe discover something before we really move here.
The team goes to training camp at the end of July and will play some preparation games. What do you expect from those matches and the preseason as well?
The preseason for me is to get to know all my teammates. I know some of them, but to get to know all of them. Also, to get to know the coach, and his playing style, because it is different from what I used to. I think it will be just getting to know the system and how it works. I take it as it comes and I am looking forward to how tough he can make training camp.
What would you like to achieve with the team in the next season?
To win everything that is possible, because I think we have a great team. I hope we can win every trophy we are playing for.
