From 1 July, Yahia Omar Khaled is officially a Veszprém player. We asked the young Egyptian right back about his move to his new home.
You are now officially the player of Telekom Veszprém. Are you excited for the season ahead of us?
Joining Veszprém is a huge honor because it is a very big Club in Europe. I am looking forward to the season and the development. I am also excited to make a difference with a team.
How did you see your last season in the Egyptian Zamalek?
We managed to win the African Super Cup, the African Champions League and the domestic league, so it was a very successful season with Zamalek. I showed a huge development. We had a very good World championship with the Egyptian national team in Germany and Denmark. For me, it was the best season so far.
How was your farewell from your last team?
It was hard because I have known since April that I will be leaving the team. It was very hard to say goodbye because our team was like a family, we were close in age to each other. It was hard to leave after these years.
How is the moving to your new home?
My moving goes very fast. In the next week, I will be done with almost everything.
What are your first impressions of Hungary?
Hungary is very good, but not really in the winter I guess. (laughs) The country is very organized and here in Veszprém people are very calm, just like the country itself. Cairo is much busier, it looks like when you go on vacation.
The team goes to training camp at the end of July and then plays some preparation games. What do you expect from those matches and the preseason?
Preseason is always about development. It includes a lot of physical exercises and you get to know the new players that you are going to play with in the new season. All players are top level, so I am looking forward to put myself amongst them.
What would you like to achieve with the team in the next season?
It was very hard to see Veszprém losing the Champions League in June. I think that it will be good to end this season with the Champions League trophy in our hands. Of course, the league and the cup is always important. I know that we are joining the SEHA League, which is also a good competiton, so there are a lot of good games to be played.
