Mátyás Győri, center back of Telekom Veszprém and the Hungarian national team suffered a torn ACL and cartilage damage on 17 December against Csurgói KK in the K&H League. After this, he went under surgery by the doctor of the Hungarian national team, Dr. Gábor Erdélyi in the Kastélypark Clinic in Tata. Lately he has been doing his rehabilitation at the NEKA headquarters in Balatonborglár. He recently visited the team that is when we had a chat with him.
Welcome back to the Veszprém Arena Matyi! How are you, how do you feel yourself?
I feel that my knee is all right, and every doctor and physio says the same. I am at one and a half month, and they said that it is not so frequent that someone can do such exercises so easily and almost without pain after a short period of time. I am happy about that and that I could visit the boys today, even if it was only a short visit. Unfortunately, I have to go back to Balatonboglár and do what I have to do. As time goes, as my condition is getting better, I will have more opportunity to come and see them. It was only a quick check in on my side.
What does your day consist of?
I am treated in the morning and in the afternoon as well. I have a rehabilitation coach, with whom I work on my physiotherapy in water and on land as well. I usually work with him for 3 hours a day. I have a personal trainer, with whom I work and hour a day. Furthermore, I have a masseuse, who does my massages and therapies like laser and magnetic therapies and does the cooling. They work with me almost 6 hours a day, which has its result I think. It is no coincidence that I am in such a great condition. I and everyone around me does their best to recover as quickly as possible.
How do you feel and what do the doctors say about your return?
I am in constant talk with my doctors; I will even have a checkup in the following days where Dr. Gábor Erdélyi will tell me how my recovery goes. I feel like if I am improving in such speed I can even come back this season. Although I talked to coach Vranjes about it if it makes sense to come back. If I could return for only 5 games does it worth taking the risk of getting injured again. We have to decide if it is more important to start the summer preparations 100% instead of getting rehab even in the beginning of next season. Everything is on the rehabilitation, the date of my return, but it might not be a sensible decision. It may happen that when we move a step to the front, we might step back twice.
We asked this from William as well: What are you expectations from the team in the second half of the season?
I only have positive visions. Obviously, you cannot say much in sport because you never know when the surprise may come. I think that every player, coach and everybody who works at the Club does their job with a 100% and that is the most important. The time you spend on work has to give your back somehow, so I look positively in the future.
Finally, what is your message to the team and the Supporters?
I would like to thank the team for their support. Firstly, for the jerseys, they wore after my injury but what is most important is that they cared about me; they called me and asked me how I was. If I meet them, they greet me with smiles and happiness, which is more important than a jersey. Of course, it felt great because it showed a bigger picture for the world, to see how converging we are as a team. A lot of Fans wrote to me, I cannot count how many times I wrote thank you in the last few months. It felt really great. I hope the team can remain this close to each other, with the Supporters as well.
