Interview with Máté Lékai

You were voted best player of the team from the last season by supporters. How did you receive this news?

It is very honoring and I am happy that our supporters recognize my performance from the last season. I am thankful for everyone who voted for me. It is a great feeling that they think my game was good.

How do you see the last season after almost 2 months?

I think now as I thought back then. I think it was not a successful season. It was an average season comparing to what Veszprém can do. I think it would have been a successful season if we have won the Champions League. We failed to do it again. It may seem cliché but “Keep moving forward” and maybe we will win it this year.

How did the vacation go?

It went well. First of all I asked my girlfriend to be my fiancé. Then we went to the USA for a longer vacation. We tried to rest from the fatigue of the season. I gained a lot of new experiences but I was waiting for the preparations to come.

Coming back from vacation the team went to Rogla for a training camp. How were the preparations in Slovenia?

This is the toughest part of a season. Everybody has get back from the summer and get to work. We see other people on vacation or on the beach and it makes it even harder but we know our goals of the season and that we have to work for it right now to be prepared for what is coming. According to this the work was hard but we spent it in a good atmosphere.

What are your impressions of the new players and coaching staff? Is the new team starting to form?

I feel like everyone integrated well. Everybody has great feelings. The new coaching staff integrated well too and the team got on the same page immediately. So as the new players with the old ones who have been here for a while. In my opinion the integration goes well and there will be no problems with that in the future either.

At the end of August Veszprém hosts a friendly tournament with strong opponents and the new team will step on court for the first time at home too. What do you expect from this tournament?

Naturally we are eager to play in front of our home crowd. Péter Gulyás and Gergő Iváncsik will have a farewell game and I think it will be a great memory for them. This tournament will be in the name of preparations for us. I hope that our game will improve and our supporters will be happy.

What do you expect from the season ahead of us?

I think I have already said it above what a successful season makes up of. This is why we fight and hustle and I think everybody is fighting for the same goals. I hope that the injuries will avoid us. I wish that both we and the supporters will be happy at the end of the season.
