Interview with Manuel Strlek

Telekom Veszprém's new player, Manuel Strlek paid a visit to Veszprém today and answered our questions with pleasure. Here is the interview with the Croatian international left wing.

In a few weeks, you are officially going to be the player of Telekom Veszprém. Are you excited for the season ahead of us?

Of course, I am excited because there is a lot of big things to do next season. I hope we will play well and make some great success.

How did you see your last season in Kielce?

It was a hard season because in the Champions League you can win or lose against anyone. It was two hard groups and handball is improving year by year. For fans, it is really exciting to watch. We were knocked out in the quarterfinals against Paris, they were a tough opponent. Of course, we dreamt about the CL Final4 but it did not happen. We won the double in the Poland, championship title and cup. I am satisfied with my last season.

How was your farewell from your last team?

It was very nice because some players finished their careers in Kielce. We won the championship in front of our fans and later we had a little party. It was nice. There were lots of emotions.

How is the moving to your new home?

I was checking my new flat now, I am satisfied with it, I am sure my family, and I will enjoy it here.

This is our next question: you are moving here with your family, will they like the new environment? What do you think?

I must say that this is my wife’s first time in Veszprém. We will see the town now, but I played here many times. I know that the best fans are here in the whole world. It is a great place to play handball. I came because of this. The Club on in the highest level, one of the best club in Europe. I think we can do a lot of big things with this team.

What are your first impressions of Hungary?

I was only a few times in Budapest, and I played matches in Veszprém and Szeged. I did not see a many things out of handball. I only know things that are connected to sport. Handball is rising in Hungary, not only in the two biggest clubs, Veszprém and Szeged, but the rest of the league. The teams are getting better and better.

The team goes to training camp at the end of July and then plays a lot of preparation games. What do you expect from those matches?

Normally in a training camp and in preparation games you train new things. New players came to the club so they must see the tactics. It is always like this when you come to a new team. I am sure that we will have time for everything and when the season starts we will be on high level. We will play really good handball.

What would you like to achieve with the team in the next season?

In a team like Veszprém, you have the biggest expectations. We would like to win the Hungarian league, the cup and to get into the Final4 of the Champions League. We know that it is hard to win the CL but once you qualify for the Final4, everything is possible. Our primary goals should be winning the championship, cup and to get to Cologne.
