Telekom Veszprém is back from the Dutch training camp and continues the preparation in Veszprém. We asked our captain László Nagy about the training camp in the Netherlands and abouot the upcoming one in Győr. Of course summer and next season was on the table as well.
Hello Laci, and welcome back! How was the summer? Where did you go on vacation?
Mostly I was at home. Before the two World Championship qualifiers I went to Corfu with my friends sailing. Right before the preparations started, I went back to the same place with my family for a long weekend. Otherwise we spent our summer between Budapest and Lake Balaton.
You came back from the Dutch training camp where you worked hard all week. How was the camp, the work done there and the atmosphere?
The atmosphere was great, so as the training camp. We did useful exercises with the help of two very professional ladies. Hopefully, these exercises will prevent injuries during the next season. It was a week well spent in great atmosphere.
In what area did you make the most progress?
You cannot improve so much in a week. Which is very positive, that the atmosphere was outstanding. It was a useful part of the season, but we will need more time for this team to form a cohesive unit.
Five new players came to the Club this summer. How is their integration coming along?
It goes well. We greeted them with much love and they took up the workflow very well. They also had a big part in the ambiance. I did not see any strange thing that may make their integration difficult.
The team will work in Veszprém this week. On what will the emphasis be at home?
On everything, I think. We are doing very serious physical work, and handball training will appear in the afternoon trainings as well. The morning training is usually spent at the gym or on the running court.
The new team will play against Balatonfüred on Friday. What do you expect from that game?
The highlight is on the physical work now, so for the game against Balatonfüred the most important thing will be to keep the coach’s tactical command in both defense and offense.
Next week you are going to Győr for a mini training camp, where you will face Tatabánya. What do you expect from that match?
The two teams finished in the top half of the table last season in the championship, so I think this game will be balanced. Both of our opponents started preparations earlier than us, I do not say it as an excuse, but they might have a lead on the tactical side of the game. We have to focus on our own game.
What are your expectations for the next season?
Last season was a disappointment for everyone, and for me as well. We had time to think and to analyze mainly our Champions League games. I expect a stronger team, and a better performance from myself as well.
