Gergő Iváncsik, ’bronze medalist in the home competition’, scored 2166 goals during 16 years
‘We want to win everywhere and anytime but we can hardly manage to fulfill this. Probably because we are in a bad period now but we are trying to get out of it as soon as possible. Telekom Veszprém is still in Europe’s best teams but we need to face the fact that because of the illness and injuries we cannot win all the matches we have.’ – said Gergő Iváncsik, Champions League silver medalist, to the member of Telekom Sporthír Szolgálat.
Third one in the home competition
Gergő is on the third place of Telekom Veszprém’s efficiency hierarchy. He preceded István Pásztor on the list with his 2166 goals what he scored during 16 years. However there is still a huge difference between Gergő and József Éles, who scored 2548 goals.
‘I am proud of my team and all the goals I have. All of it mean a lot to me that is why I cannot choose which one is the best or which one decided the fate of a match. I am happy that I can still keep up with the younger players. If I know well only Sulic and Chéma, who are older than me and Laszló Nagy is in the same age as me. Cup Winners’ Cup victory, 3 Champions League Finals, and a lot of Hungarian Championship and Cup triumphs are behind me and if I had to finish right now I would not complain. My contract lasts till the end of this season end but we have not discussed anything yet. If it would depend on me I would serve the Hungarian champion team as long as I feel useful or the leaders of the club think that I am.’ – emphasized Gergő, who just turned 35 on November 30.
A lot from everything
The Hungarian team plays a Champions League match in Denmark and 48 hours later they have a SEHA League derby against Vardar Skopje. Their first opponent will be Silkeborg that they could beat with one goal in November in the Veszprém Arena and then the second opponent will be the Macedonian team that defeated us away on September 10 for 29-22.
‘We had several really hard weeks but we still have 8 matches to fight. We need to complete this in 16 days; moreover the resting period starts only after December 20. I do not complain but we have a lot of matches and we need to travel a lot so we do not train as much as we used to. We believe that the continuation in 2017 will be better and more effective. We will not let our biggest goals go because we owe that much our fans, Club and supporters. The most important is to show our best shape on the two most important days in the Champions League Final4.’ – said Gergő as a closure.
