At the same time of the international break, the first period of club handball has been closed. Our team played a lot of games in the last almost three months, out of which there were high performances and some that were not so great. We asked our head coach to rate the first period of the season.
You could only work with a few people last week because of the international break. What kind of exercises could you do with that handful of players?
For me the most important with these few players, who did not go to the national teams, was for them to forget a little bit about handball, relieve them from stress and the thinking about this. It is always good to break the routine. I wanted the remainder players to be happy, and enjoy the trainings, but also compete. They did just that in the games, everyone could see on our social media channels.
How do you see the work and the results of the last few months?
I am quite satisfied in conclusion. We had these two weeks where things were bad, but only because of the results, and because we missed a lot of chances. On the other hand, it was good, because we played well. We created clear chances in the Champions League, which is so hard to do. We were trying to find the clear path towards goal. Apart from these weeks, the team was fantastic and they are going in the way that we should go. We should not think about the lost games, because it happens, as it does to everyone. If they are not losing yet, they will, because it happens to everyone. We need to wake up earlier, because we can lose a game, but not three in a row, never.
With what are you the most satisfied?
I am satisfied with the fact that I have twenty players and everyone is playing. Almost 90% of the players who are on court scores at least once. Everyone has the minutes and they are in the game. We are not only using seven players. That is the most beautiful. I have twenty players and I find the way to give chance to everyone, while we are still winning the matches. We are playing well and everyone is part of the system. It is the most difficult thing even if you have a smaller roster. The most complicated is to make everyone feel part of the team.
With what are you unsatisfied, or you wish to improve in with the team?
Everything. Although everything goes good right now, we have a lot to improve. We are still making corrections from the previous games by video. Sometimes we do not really have enough time to correct everything only on one training and have to do it the next day.
What are your expectations for the next smaller period of the season?
My expectations are to improve in every aspect of the game: attack, defense, counter attacks and balance. Also, we would like to win as many matches as possible at home and on the road as well, and against MOL-Pick Szeged.
