We made an interview with the head coach of MKB-MVM Veszprém before his well-deserved summer holiday.
First of all I’d like to congratulate for this great season which was the best one in the history of the team.
Thank you very much.
After a couple of days, what do you think of Final4?
I think improvement is always a positive thing. We got into the final but we didn’t have enough time to prepare for the game and we couldn’t rest enough either. In addition to this two injuries weakened us. But this is sport. In two weeks I might see this season amazing since we performed great and I congratulate to all of my players for their hard work. Now it’s time to relax and in the next season we want to surpass this great achievement.
In what way have we changed since the semi-final last year?
I have to say that this game was completely different. Although we had a bad start, we revived after a while. We were confident during the match and we were good at offending their 3-2-1 defence. We deserved winning the game. Both teams were striving for the victory. Our match was not only later than the other semi-final but it was harder as well.
How has the team changed since last year?
I think we played faster and we want to be even faster in the next season. It would be great if we could play without substitutions. A couple of new players will help us in the position of playmaker and left back. Sometimes Momir Ilic was the only left back and now this will change. And if the new players, especially Palmarsson will take actions even in defence, then we might play without or with only one substitution which would be a great leap forward.
Which match do you think was the match of the year? The one against Kiel?
We had several big games. The most dramatic one was the one against Vardar in Skopje but considering the play the best one was against Kiel because in that match the team reacted to each move of the German team.
Which is the worst memory?
The CL final, no doubt. The defeats by Rhein-Neckar and Vardar were also bad but this final was obviously the worst.
If we had played against Barcelona on Sunday, would we have been able to win?
I don’t know... That’s a very good team but I’m sure that the picture of the game would have been completely different.
Instead of Karabatic, who else could have been the MVP?
I think there were two brilliant players in the final, László Nagy and Nikola Karabatic. Karabatic’s power was incredible on Sunday after having played 45 minutes on Saturday. He deserved the title, I think.
What would you wish for the next season?
I want to win the Champions League. This is our dream; we will work for this in the next season. Of course firstly we have to get into the Final4 which isn’t easy whatever some people tend to think. Moreover, it will be even harder next year because of the new implementation system. I’m sure we will get into a hard group and we might lose some games but the most important thing is to play in Cologne again.
