Last year brought joy and sorrow to Iman Jamali, MKB-MVM Veszprém’s 202-cm tall left back. Being a sportsman born in Isfahan and strengthening the Hungarian handball team, he could be the first Asian participant of Champions League’s Final 4. He also obtained the Hungarian citizenship in 2014. In addition to his success story he accepted his employer’s risky offer according to which his contract is extended until 2019 instead of 2016 committing himself with the participants of Final Four.
However the good year has been overshadowed because in April his knee pain reappeared that has already had to been operated once in Iran. Doctors might not have been profound but it is possible that the knee ligament injury, which often threatens handball players, is generated by the constant pressure, one strong collision or a bad landing. Since there was no hope that rest would help our player, the team asked the internationally reputed Professor László Hangody to repeat the surgical treatment.
“I am very grateful to the Professor as well as the whole team, including doctors and physiotherapists, who helped me to be able to train again with my team next week. My full recovery lasted 7 months and now I feel that my knee is just as good as it was when I was 18. In spite of my health, I need 3-4 weeks to get accustomed to the moves again, to get the game’s rhythm and to become a full member of the club.” the 23-year old “giant” said to the worker of Telekom Sports News Service.
He is proud of having a Hungarian passport, also of being able to get acquainted with the Hungarian language.
“My Hungarian teammates taught me a lot and the nice fans of Veszprém also contributed to my learning; I understand more and more and I can read a little bit in Hungarian as well. After living in Isfahan, which has 2 million inhabitants, I feel at home in the small town of Veszprém where I was warmly welcomed and I got into one of the best teams in Europe. It is not unimaginable that I might propose to a Hungarian girl in the future.” Jamali revealed, who is often compared to Veszprém’s ex-player acquired dual citizenship, Cuban-Hungarian Carlos Perez.
According to professionals, Hungarian national team led by Talant Dushebaev needs such a talented left back like Iman Jamali.
“I do not want to add anything relating to that yet, because at the moment my only purpose is to regain my post in the squad of MKB-MVM Veszprém after last year’s problems. I like all of my teammates, and I am really glad that we have such an excellent coach like Carlos Ortega, and such a great team captain like László Nagy, whom I consider my master.” Jamali highlighted. He hopes that 2015 will compensate him after 2014, which was almost thoroughly lost.
