I’m enjoying every step I make on the pitch, more and more
Hello Rasmus, what do you think about the progress you’ve made since your comeback? Are you satisfied?
I’m enjoying every step I make on the pitch, more and more. I think I’ve managed to catch a good rhythm in defense, I’m starting to feel more comfortable as we go. In offense, I’m not this much ahead. There is still room for improvement but I’m doing everything I can to improve and with time, I will get there. All in all, every aspect of my game is progressing day by day, training by training, match by match. We could say I’m happy with where I am now, but I’m nowhere near satisfied; I want to improve more and more, and I believe I have the potential to get there. It hasn’t even been a month since making my comeback, so I have plenty more time to improve and get better.
You became the team captain this season? How are you feeling in this role?
I always mention that it’s an honor to be the captain of this team. This is a huge club, with incredible players and I always mention that I don’t want to overthink this role. I want to remain the same man and player, who I’ve always been. As the captain, I don’t have to revolutionize anything, but rather stick to our working practices. I am trying to set an example on and off the pitch with my character, ambition and by fighting for every ball and opportunity with the same fighting spirit. I think the biggest contribution I can make to the team is presenting my true self to my teammates; whether I do that as the team captain or not, doesn’t matter.
How would you describe yourself as a team captain and how do you plan to achieve the team’s common goals?
I demand myself to give everything I got in service of the team and in return, I expect my teammates to do the same. We are fighting for our common goals and successes, and during those 2–3-hour sessions we spend with training, practicing or preparation, we all have to give 100% in order to improve individually and as a team. When we’re together, we have to give all we got because if we don’t, then we’re just wasting our time; this is my philosophy. I try to lead by example, and I try to do my job in a way that motivates and encourages others to do the same. If my teammates see that I am willing to give it my all, then hopefully they will do the same. We have a long road ahead of us, but we’re heading in the right direction, I am sure of that.
