’I’d love to bring the two points home’
− It’s still early in the season, but these games have already left their marks on us phisically, however, it’s also true for the opponents. This period after the olympic games is always tough, as if you have to play two seasons basically with no break in between. There are a lot of games, but we carry on.
− You have managed to surprised PSG last week. Where did that performance come from?
− I don’t think we played particularly well, only in certain periods of the game. However, the atmosphere in Veszprém Aréna is fantastic, it leaves us no choice but to give our best and try to win every game, no matter who the opponent is. It was the key to this victory too: we didn’t give up, not even when we were 4 goals down 10 minutes before the end.
− We knew that the game against Ferencváros wasn’t going to be easy too. Horváth Attila’s team is always a tough opponent, and this time you had less than 48 hours to prepare for the game. What do you think of that match?
− We usually struggle against Ferencváros. They are a young, ambitious team that is getting better and better each season. We have a tendency to start slow at certain games, it was no different this time, we were four goals behind after the first half. It’s a dangerous pattern, there may come a second half when we won’t be able to turn the game around. We need to focus from the very fist moment on. Anyway, we knew it was going to be a hard game, we were exhausted, but we got the two points in the end.
− Why do you tend to start slow?
− Good question… Although we started pretty well against PSG.
− Yeah, it usually happens in the domestic league.
− Let’s be honest, sometimes it’s harder to motivate ourselves before these games. But as professional athletes we need to take all games seriously. If our concentration is on point, we don’t have this problem.
− You already played 8 games with the new coaching staff. What is the biggest difference compared to last year’s team?
− The biggest difference is that we have a bit less players, which means that everyone get more minutes on the court, and this way the roles and responsibilities are bit more clear to all of us.
− The youngsters definitely get more playtime this season. What is your take on their progress?
− They are settling in well, they are also very talented, but it takes some time to get used to the rythm of the first division. Pepe – as a playmaker – has a particularly hard job getting familiar with this Spanish system that we play in, but all in all the youngsters are doing well, they are all gifted and ready to work their socks off.
− On Thursday you travel to Kielce. What are your thoughts on that game?
− I played Kielce many times in Kielce, Talant is a great tactician. They have a really strong roster, although the Dujshebaev-brothers missed the last game due to injury, and we don’t know whether they will be available this Thursday. I expect a huge battle on the court, but I’d love to bring the two points home.
