Andreas Nilsson is glad that the Swedish team performed great in Qatar and hopes that they can continue the World Championship without any injuries and in present form. Our pivot, who barely fails, let us know about the key of an outstanding score rate and some things about his tattoos.
You are very young but you have many experiences from different world competitions. What is Qatar different from the other organizer countries?
My impressions have been positive so far. I can’t say that Qatar is different from any other countries where I’ve been as a competitor. We sleep, eat and spend our day of rest between the matches in the hotel. What I would highlight is the winter here.
It seems that you maintained your form from the previous games and defeated easily Czech Republic. How was the tournament from the inside?
Yes, I think we are in good form and played together superbly on the court; our saving was great and we were really impetuous.
Actually, you have no reason to complain because your rates are astonishing. When you have the ball, it will be a goal or a penalty. What do you think your secret is?
I don’t know. Training, practicing and when I shoot, I always look at the goalkeeper. It might be the secret.
Every player says that.
I am young, but with regard to matches I have much experience. I can say that I have improved in effective shooting year by year.
Is there someone from whom you can take this or that?
I used to have role models whose play I admired. But now I rather analyze the opponent team’s goalkeeper before the games. I observe their common moves and how they react in different situations. It helps a lot.
The World Championship began only a couple of days ago, we are in the group stage but we have already had surprises. Who can win this tournament?
There are some favourites, as usual. I’m sure my list is not surprising for you: Denmark, France, Germany and Iceland. But there can be surprises; there are many great teams who can win the Championship.
What about the team of Sweden?
We have an excellent squad but it’s a long competition. If we remain healthy and keep going dynamically, then we have good chances.
We can see that you have tattoos on your whole body. Are any of them connected to handball?
None of them, actually. I have some inscriptions but these only have significance for me. Tattoos leads to addiction. I have some plans for new ones but I have never thought about a tattoo that is connected with handball.
What would you say to your teammates and fans?
I would tell my teammates to continue hard work and I would tell to my fans that they are the best in the world. I have never experienced anything like this; it is amazing how they sing during the whole games and celebrate after games in Veszprém Arena. Come to the games and support us till the Champions League’s Final 4.
