Getting closer to our biggest aim

After the memorable and confident victory over Flensburg, in the last round of group games MVM Veszprém’s opponent is Wisla Plock which gained points against us right away in the first round of the tournament. The draw in the game against Poland resulted in head coach Carlos Ortega leaving.

 

That was a troubled period for the team. But finally, thanks to the attitude of the team putting emphasis on “one for all, all for one”, the players could revive. They still have every chance to reach their most important goal, the group winning. They need two significant achievements. Gaining points against Flensburg in Paris as well as gaining two points against Plock. Regardless of the expectations, every team has equal opportunities; victory should not be taken for granted.

 

One thing is clear: our Saturday opponent will remain in the 6th place on the league table. Still, the players of Manolo Cadenas will give a high-standard performance. We should be careful because the team of Dimitrij Zsitnyikov was defeated in an extremely tight game. If they had scored their penalties, they could have won in Germany. But it is not worth thinking about “what if”.

 

Veszprém, on the other hand, has many things to lose. They have to do everything what they had aimed at in the summer and satisfy their fans’ expectations. Moreover, it is safe to say that HOPE dies last concerning group winning. So there are many things to cope with.

 

Head Coach Javier Sabaté was able to overcome many obstacles and difficulties and make this team an even more outstanding one. He adopted his predecessor’s “step by step” method which will hopefully end with the Final Four final match.
