Foreshadow: Veszprém – Zagreb

On Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Telekom Veszprém hosts PPD Zagreb in the VELUX EHF Champions League in the Veszprém Arena. The game is broadcasted live on Sport1 from 5:00 p.m.

 

 

The 26 times Croatian champions would like to advance to the best 8 European teams for the 3rd time in a row. For that they have to defeat Veszprém, who got the minimal advantage of 1 goal from the first-leg in Zagreb. The clash ended in a 22:23 and it was clear that the two sides know each other very well. The goals were shared in both teams without any outstanding individual performance. In Zagreb Domagoj Pavlovic and Josip Valcic scored 4-4, while Stipe Mandalinic and Igor Vori scored 3-3 goals each. In Veszprém Gasper Marguc and Renato Sulic scored 4-4, while Andreas Nilsson, Dragan Gajic and Cristian Ugalde scored 3-4 times.

 

The Croats advanced to the best 8 in 2015 and 2016. In the season 2014/15 they were knocked out by Barcelona who beat them back-to-back. One year later they were eliminated by PSG. In the two game against the French team Zlatko Horvat and Stipe Mandalinic scored 11-11 goals in the two games against PSG.

 

 

Last time “Építők” played at the already mentioned game in Zagreb. Before that, last Tuesday, they played in the Hungarian championship and achieved a confident 33:22 win over Vác. The players are preparing for the rematch against Zagreb this whole week and it was even confirmed by the team's head coach, Xavi Sabaté, who said: “Of course this is not enough advantage to relax and it will be very tough. We know exactly in which situations to improve and we have already started working on it. We are working hard throughout the week to be prepared for a good match and to not give a chance to them.”
