Foreshadow: Veszprém – Zagreb

This Sunday at 3 PM, a Champions League match will be held in Veszprém Arena again. Our opponent team is PPD Zagreb. Live broadcast on Sport1.

 

As Tamás Donát explained in our previous article, the teams’ history dates back a long time. Earlier the Croatian team seemed to be the more successful one, but recently the Hungarian team has turned out to be one of the top teams breaking records. According to Zoltán Lang’s statistics, our team has gained more triumphs than our opponents.

 

 

During the teams’ history, among the players of MVM Veszprém, József Éles was considered to be the biggest threat to the goalkeepers of Zagreb, while nowadays Momir Ilic has played an important role in the games.

 

 

In this season, the teams have already played against each other in the SEHA League and in the Champions League; both matches were held in Croatia and ended with our victory. After a tight game, Veszprém succeeded in winning the CL match thanks to the last goal of Gasper Marguc scored in the ending game (20:21). As opposed to this, in the SEHA League, we gained a confident 4-goal victory (19:23). As you can see, these matches were not memorable for the number of goals since both teams are excellent at defending.

  

Since then, PPD Zagreb has been weakened by injuries and it affected their performance. In their last game, they fought hard against PSG even if they had a lot of injured players (Stepancic, Sabljic, Sprem, Mihic and Sandrk) but were defeated in the end. They are currently in the 5th place of CL’s Group “A” counting 4 victories, 1 draw and 6 defeats.

In SEHA League, they are the 3rd team at the moment counting 12 victories and 3 defeats.

 

 

This match is extremely important for MVM Veszprém since the team wants to end up in the best possible place of the group round and succeed in the knockout round. As our players said in their statements, the team has been preparing for this match accordingly.
