Telekom Veszprém – MOL-Pick Szeged derby will be held on Saturday at 19:30 in the K&H League. The game will be boradcasted live by M4 Sport.
On our last encounter, we managed to claim the championship title back from Szeged, after beating them on home court by 11 goals, 35:24, then finishing in a 27:27 draw in away. The score was about to be close in the Veszprém Arena, and Szeged had the lead in the half time break, but the guest team fulfilled a complete meltdown, which resulted in the home team taking over by the 40th minute. Dragan Gajic scored nine times, while Petar Nenadic scored six. In away, the game was close all the way to the end, and a draw was more than enough for the 27th Veszprém title. Manuel Strlek was the top scorer of Veszprém in Szeged with five goals.
Szeged is currently leading the Hungarian championship unbeaten, and playing one more match than Veszprém behind them who is unbeaten as well. Our opponent had only one close game in the domestic league against Gyöngyös, where the guest team could lead in the half time by four goals, but finally Szeged took over and won 31:28. Their last game was against Eger, whom they beat at home 45:32. Their top scorer in the K&H League is Mario Sostaric with 76 goals.
In the Champions League, our opponent will spend the winter on second spot in the group, just like our team. They are trailing Barca by one point, while PSG trails them by one point. They have eight victories, a draw and a loss so far, that they suffered in Paris in the second round. Their draw was played against the German champion Flensburg. In the closing round of 2019, they finished with a 33:23 victory over Zagreb at home. Their top scorer in the CL is Bogdan Radivojevic with 54 goals.
This summer, four new names arrived to the Tisza bank, such as Roland Mikler from Veszprém, Luka Stepancic from PSG, Bogdan Radivojevic from Löwen and Miklós Rosta from Tatabánya. A few players left the club, like Balogh Zsolt left to Tatabánya, Pedro Rodriguez went to Balatonfüred, Marin Sego signed with Montpellier and Stefan Sunajko was loaned out to Savehof.
Telekom Veszprém played in the Champions League last time, when they beat the CL titleholders by nine goals for the second time this season. The absolute player of the game was Petar Nenadic who scored 11 goals. In the Hungarian league Veszprém played their last game against Ferencváros, where after a tough game, we managed to win 30:35 in the end. The top scorer of the team in the K&H League is still Manuel Strlek with 43 goals in seven matches.
