Foreshadow: Veszprém – Szeged

 

Telekom Veszprém will face MOL-Pick Szeged in the final of the Hungarian Cup on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in the Főnix Hall of Debrecen. The game will be broadcasted live by M4 Sport.

 

 

The two teams have met this season twice already in the championship. First in Veszprém, where Szeged managed to win 27:32 thank to mainly the great performance of Marin Sega. The second game was held not so long ago, on 17 March. Although Veszprém lost, the overall picture of the play was much better and the result shows this as well. During the 25:23 loss, Dejan Manaskov scored five times.

 

Our opponent, with the above mentioned two victories, stepped away from its chasers and most likely to finish the regular season on first place. They won all of their games with only one exception against Tatabánya which they finished in a draw. The top scorer of Szeged in the championship is Stefan Sigurmannsson with 90 goals.

 

MOL-Pick easily went through Wisla Plock in the best 16 and qualified for the quarterfinals with a double victory, where they have to face Macedonian side Vardar Skopje.

 

 

Lastly, here are some interesting facts about our Hungarian Cup history. This is the eighth time in a row that we play against Szeged in the Cup final. We have played nineteen finals against them overall out of which we won fifteen and lost four times.

Today’s going to be our 36th Hungarian Cup final, out of the 35 so far we have won 27 times and had to get away with a silver medal eight times. Veszprém’s actual team has been playing in the Hungarian Cup final ever since 1986.
