Telekom Veszprém hosts MOL-Pick Szeged in the Hungarian derby on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. in the K&H League. M4 Sport will start broadcasting from 4:45 p.m.
The last time we met Szeged, we achieved a flawless victory. We managed to win by 9 goals in away on 21 October. The game ended in 21:30. The two top scorers from Veszprém were Dejan Manaskov and Kent Robin Tonnesen, who scored 6 and 7 goals respectively in their first derby. The top scorers from the opponent were Gorbok, Balogh, Skube, Sostaric and Bodó. They scored 3 goals each.
Szeged is currently at 2nd place in the Hungarian championship, but they played 2 games more than their chaser Tatabánya, who are trailing by 5 points behind. However, besides Veszprém, Tatabánya was the other team that could beat Szeged this year in the domestic league. Out of 21 games, they lost the already mentioned 2 matches, drawn twice while winning 17 times. Their point loss came from Budakalász and Gyöngyös. They played on 27 February in the Hungarian league last time, when they hosted Komló. They managed to win 38:24. On that game Bodó scored 9 goals. Their top scorer in the series is Stefan Sigurmannsson by scoring 98 goals on 20 games.
Our next opponent played in group ‘A’ in the Champions League and finished it on the 5th place, which means that they qualified for the best 16, where they will meet THW Kiel. They played 14 games in the CL and won 6 times, while losing 7 times and drawing once. Out of their victories 2 stands out the most, their home victory against Barcelona and their away win against the reigning Bundesliga champions, Rhein-Neckar Löwen. Besides this, they could play a draw against the title holding Vardar Skoje at home. They played their last group game last Sunday in Barcelona, where they only lost by one goal. The top 3 scorers of Szeged in the European cup series are Jonas Kallman, Richárd Bodó and Bence Bánhidi with 41 goals each.
The “Építők” played in Cegléd on Tuesday in the Hungarian championship and won by 6 goals. In the game ending in 23:29, Nilsson, Ugalde and Nenadic scored 4 times. In the Champions League they played a week ago against Celje and won 29:22. Our top scorer on that game was Máté Lékai with 6 goals. He is currently the third best scorer in the series with his 72 goals, with Uwe Gensheimer on top with 80. The fifth best scorer is Momir Ilic with 66 goals.
The Veszprém – Szeged derby is always the most important game for the fans, and it will be no different on Saturday. It is sure that the teams will be welcomed with a fantastic atmosphere in the Veszprém Arena, where for the home team the only option is victory. The boys prepared hard all week long, to beat their domestic rivals for the second time this season.
Let’s go Veszprém!
